Hi everyone,

I am currently on azythromycin 500mg a day and metronidazole 500 mg a day.

I had to go to the doctor today for a severe pain on one side of my back and right side of my abdomen. They did a urinalysis and I have a UTI.

They are doing a urine culture before putting me on more antibiotics.

I thought for sure that since I am on antibiotics that I would not have to worry about this.

Has this happened to anyone else?

yes, is happening to me now even when i take a UTI abx bactrim. It makes treating lyme difficult.

I had a UTI while biaxin (same class of abx as zithromax)

Not all abx cover all strains of bacteria...some will kill gram negative bacteria others will kill gram positive bacteria.

So, yes it is possible even on abx you can get another infection.

Did they send it out for culture, so you know what abx the UTI bacteria is suseptable to?

YES! I had a UTI last fall for three months! I was already on two abx. When I got the UTI we added Cipro and it didn't get rid of it. Then we added Levaquin and that didn't get rid of it.

My dr. did a urine culture as well, but it came back inconclusive. Anyways, to make a long story short, I was put on every abx combo under the sun and it would not get rid of it! In desperation, my Dr. added flagyl to the mix and within days it was gone.

He said he's never seen anything like it...who knows? But yes...you can get all kinds of other infections while on abx.
