Hi,
I recently switched LLMDs and was tested this time by IgeneX. All of my previous tests were done by Stonybrook.

I thought the results were pretty much the same at first but now I realize they are very different.

Stony Brook Labs
5/10/2006 IgG 28, 58 IgM 39 *
9/01/2006 IgG 28, 58 IgM 39 *
2/26/2007 IgG 58 IgM 39 *
4/10/2008 IgG 28 IgM 39 *
8/12/2008 IgG 28, 58 IgM 39 *

*and other CDC non-specific bands

9/3/2008 IgeneX
IgG 31 IND, 34 IND, 39 IND, 41++
IgM 18+, 34+, 41 IND

Any thoughts?

The folks at Stony Brook exclude a lot of important bands because
we're an inconvenience to them and they thus need to make
it appear that we don't exist.

Do you know if you can find out the other "cdc nonspecific" bands?
Its seems strange to me that your tests show completely different bands at the different labs, especially being done so close together????

Stonybrook showed more bands for me than my local labs. I guess all labs are going to get different results although I've never used Igenex. I also had "cdc non-specific" bands in both serum and csf at stonybrook.

Cockapoo,

Read Dr. C's explanation of Igenex western blot.

IND are considered weak positive. Think of it as a very faint line vs very dark line.

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=042077

and this guideline, testing section, written by Dr. Burrasacano, top lyme doctor in America.

http://www.ilads.org/files/burrascano_0905.pdf

Igenex is considered the best lab by far for LYME. There number of bands is much more comprehensive.

I expected to see my ever persistent 39 IgM and 28 and 58 IgG on the IgeneX. I don't understand why they are not there.

I guess only someone who does this testing can answer this.

My LLMD tests through both Stonybrook and Igenex. However, if you write "Request all bands" on the Stonybrook test- they test for everything, even 31, 34, etc. non-specific bands, and other bands the CDC excludes.

On a personal note, I have found my Stonybrook tests to usually have the same basic 6 or 7 bands (1 or 2 might be different) each time.

My Igenex results change each time, with each test.

I don't know what to think about that.

That's a huge issue to me if Igenix's bands change on every test you've had. Something seems really wrong about that? That'll make me start questioning stuff.

I was informed by someone who would know that the deal with stoneybrook is this.

The doctor has to call for the test results...and then they "whisper" wether or not the test had bugs.

They wont put it in writing.

They fear the govt too.

Given how Bb varies its surface antigen expression, it seems to me to make perfect sense that the bands keep changing.

That and your body may or may not be producing the specific

Antibodies to that particular band at the time of testing.

More bands means your immune system is working.

But, the strange thing is the consistency of the Stony Brook tests and then the difference in the IgeneX.

I am thinking that possibly the labs perform their tests differently so that the results come out different. I am confused.

Not about that I have lyme. I know I do. My herx reactions have been very consistent with lyme. Maybe that is the best test?

I started Flagyl about 1 month ago with the new LLMD, herxed horribly, but now for the first time in about 6 months, I have been able to get out and have some fun. [Big Grin]

Cockapoo....If you feel you really really need to know the difference in the tests, call Igenex and ask to speak to Dr Harris.

He may be able to explain it to you.

I don't see that it makes a hill of beans difference, because as you say, you have Lyme.
