Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? In the three years I've had Lyme and co I flair BIG time in the spring and fall.
It doesn't matter how many abx I'm on. I'm dosed up on some heavy abx now, and have been for some time, but about two weeks ago I started having a lot of symptoms creep back in. Many that I haven't had in a long time. It's scary and frustrating!
And I know that it has something to do with the season change because for three years straight I've been stuck in the same pattern.
From mid September to around beginning of November I'm horribly sick and totally non-functional...then it all gradually goes away and by Thanksgiving I feel pretty good - still symptomatic but manageable. I continue to feel good through the holidays and into January and Febuary.
Then comes March! Oooh, how I hate March! All my symptoms come roaring back and I don't get any reprieve until around June.
Anyone else?? Am I crazy?! Would love to hear from others on this!!

Absolutely. This is common in Lyme Disease. Symptoms for most patients improve around March, through the end of May. About a two month window.
There are patients who are reversed too. They get very sick around March, and don't recover until about September or November. It's quite disturbing really.

After starting treatment in Feb/March '07 I had (after first huge herx!) steady improvement. Then, that fall, a huge backslide.
Then back in improvement mode.
Now, not feeling AS good again (although not a full backslide like last fall, thankfully). It did strike me - fall again, wonder if this is a cyclical kind of thing?
So, I read your post with much interest.

I'm fascinated by the fact that Lyme does seem to cycle and wax and wane with the seasons and the moon. It's fascinating and as Metallic said disturbing at the same time. Anybody know WHY?

I think fall and spring allergies plus MOLD.... moldy leaves in the fall with moldy tree pollen AND mushy/moldy spring with more pollen bursting.
Basically, northeast freeze is a blessed event for killing outside mold!
Just my two cents/sense,

I'm thinking mold has a lot to do with it. We're having an extra-wet fall in North Carolina and I'm pretty sure that there's wayyy more mold than our houses had this summer. I'm sure some of my problems have to do with the extreme mold.

My husband traditionally gets flares in the Fall. So far so good this year. I'm knocking on wood as I type this!

More hours of daylight in the summer.
Sunshine impacts the immune system, increases Vit-D & also helps seratonin production.

Well of COURSE you are crazy!
Hey.... YOU asked!
As for your other problems...
Heck if I know. Just wanted to drop by and make fun of you.
Ok.. really.
Yes, very common to have flares. From my observations normally MORE people feel worse in the summer time... about 75 percent do.
The other 25 percent ... which I am one... feel worse in the winter time.
This is NOT official... just my observations from watching the boards for soooooooo long.
My GUESS on why this happens....
Like the ticks and the bears and the deer and other animals.. the spirochetes have a time of year (possibly coinciding with ticks getting more active and blood meals?) that they are more active and ready to roll (reproduce, eat, etc).
Possibly strains, coinfections, etc play a part in this cycle too?
I am simply guessing from looking at the BIG picture... mother nature.

I have had Lyme for 35 years. Mostly it didn't bother me until five years ago, just random symptoms once in a while. However, every fall I would have shoulder and back pain. It was like the clothes were too heavy and causing muscle pain even though I'm in good shape. This happened as long as I can remember .... back in high school even.
I always thought it was normal, LOL! Yes, this fall, my shoulders and back hurt ... and it's been so warm I'm still wearing t-shirts, so it's got to be the Lyme.

I took some extra pain meds and went down for a nap sometime around sep. 1 - and i'm still sleeping -
I'm in Michigan and i agree it might be the moldy conditions around here. I also soaked up a lot of sunshine over the summer, and we kissed that goodbye too
I'll look into it more come December when i wake up!

I agree with AliG. I always flare at this time of year, and this is also the time of year I break out in a rash. I think it's lack of sunshine. Which sucks, because this year it is extra busy this time of year (I hate election year!)
As soon as I have to start wearing long pants and tops, I get a rash. No, it's not my laundry or lotion or anything like that. I have eliminated all dyes and scents in my life.
