There are alot of questions on different lyme groups concerning the safety and effectiveness of vaccines...especially the FLU vaccine. If you are concerned, please go to this link where I posted a link to an important vaccine article on my blog http://lymesentinel.blogspot.com/search/label/Vaccine%20IssuesPosts: 1176 | Registered: Oct 2002

what about the preservative free vaccines? (I've never done flu but many travel vaccines are available preservative free now).

My medical opinion is as follows. Vaccines work. However, many vaccines contain ingredients that you may be sensitive to, or some preservatives that are just outright bad for you (mercury and aluminum derivatives). If you're looking into a vaccine for yourself or your children, make sure you do your research to find out what the different vaccines contain (off the top of my head, unit dosed prewrapped flu shots typically contain no preservatives. However, those drawn from multi-dose bottles do.). In addition, make sure to space "good" vaccines out, especially if your system is taxed to minimize complications and side effects.
Lets try to remember the horrors of a world before vaccines, where polio and smallpox ran rampant. We don't want those days returning. In my opinion, there's no reason to be afraid of the concept of vaccines. Make sure you tell your health care providers that you only want those that are free of the "nasty" stuff.

There was another thread recently on vaccines where someone mentioned the preservative free vaccines were not really very preservative free.
I too am done with vaccines and I think they did my cat in. She was too tiny to deal with what the vet use to give her.

And let us know the horror of the world with vaccines: AIDS, Autism, Alzheimers, MS, ALS, Parkinsons, Retardation, Pick's Disease, Cancer, SIDS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, the list goes on...

There are some suggested vaccination guidelines offered for people who want to vaccinate. Guidelines such as waiting til the child is a bit older, spacing the vaccines, separating the measles, mumps, and rubella out into three separate vaccines administered with some time in between, etc. This was discussed on the Oprah show today.

I still have not found any evidence that Flu vaccines prevent the Flu. I would be interested if any one else has some evidence that they work.
I am not sure about other vaccines, but they certainly have not been tested nearly enough to prove safety. Especially long term effects.
One thing all vaccinations do is deliberately inflame your body to provoke an immune response. For someone with an inflammatory disease like I have, it does not seem like a good idea. Especially for a minor ailment like most strains of Flu.

D Bergy - Given some time I can probably drag up some reports I've read that confirm that influenza vaccines do prevent the variant of flu that they are tailored to. However, they don't prevent those that are massively different. Every year, it is predicted what the next year's "Major flu" is going to be and the vaccines are developed to combat it. However, if (like last year? or was it 2006?) the major strain that year is something completely different, the vaccine may not prevent the infection. One of the reasons that there is so much controversy over the vaccine itself is that people get the vaccine, and then come down with a case of an "unpopular" strain, leading them to believe the vaccine doesn't work. Its a little like getting the Hepatitis B vaccine, and then ending up with Hep C and claiming the vaccine didn't prevent "Hepatitis".
Claire - Always a good idea.
Adamm- There is no evidence to show that the conditions you cited are caused or created by vaccine use. Maybe that's not what you meant to imply? I try to keep the number of horrible conditions in the world to a minimum, and would like to keep diseases like polio, small pox, hepatitis B, and more off that list if at all possible.

When I was really ifected raging lyme in the beginning if I got a flu shot man did I get sick. Even a tetnus shot would hurt for weeks.
But then when my infection had been knocked down my reactions were way way less.
Now that iam off abxs I had a flu shot last week and I didnt even have a reaction not even a red mark! They use to get all inflammed and itch nothing. Just for your info.

NOT WORTH IT
I had a tetanus shot about 12 years a go. I got extremely sick from it. I don't think I've ever gotten back to how I felt before the shot. I will NEVER get another one!

The thing is....if everyone had immediate reactions to the vaccines....of course people would be more leary of taking them. The problem with vaccines altering the immune system... is that it usually seems to happen down the road a ways when there is no real cause and effect proof that the vaccines caused it....BUT one cannot prove that they are not the cause.
I don't want to take the chance....deciding between a normal case of the flu and so called autoimmune disease for the rest of my life. Genetic susceptibility to the vaccines probably also plays a role....as with the lyme vaccine. 30 percent of the population has a certain genotype that when combined with the vaccine can cause an autoimmune or arthritic/fibromyalgia type illness which is incurable and can be worse than a case of Lyme disease.
If the CDC really cared about our health and not profits, they would educate people how to eat right and build up our immune systems so that we can resist these things naturally.Did you guys read the link at the top of this thread?
The CDC uses fear tactics to market the vaccine. They actually have classes and power point presentations on how to use propaganda to frighten and convince the public that we need to do such a crazy thing....injecting all the chemicals, bacteria and viruses directly into the body bypassing the body's natural immune defenses.

The evidence I have seen thus far regarding the Flu vaccine is that it does not work in young children and seniors. Who gets more Flu shots than seniors?
Mortality rates for seniors have not changes over the years in spite of increased Flu vaccination.
If the Flu vaccine is bogus, all should be suspect. I am not saying that none of them work at all, but I suspect they do much less than advertised.
With the surge in autoimmune diseases over the last twenty years, vaccinations that intentionally tinkers with your immune system is going to be on the short list of suspects.

That's really something else, Angelica, about the ingredients in a flu vaccine!
If anyone is interested - there's alot of history behind the vaccine issue. A lady named Eleanor McBean (who was a PhD) wrote a fascinating book about it called "The Poison Needle" back in 1957.

I asked my homeopathic doctor, he said the only vaccines he would recommend are: polio and tetanus.
Tetanus, because it may kill fast in case an accident occurs when one is traveling or so, before help is found. The rest, he doesn't really suggest.
After getting the shot, he would give something to clean the body from its bad effects, he said: 200K homeopathic dilution from the exact vaccine shot should be given to the child.
He's from Belgium. The local company that makes homeopathics produce already all sorts of dilutions with all vaccines that exist in the market.
