I just had my first mammogram today. (age 38)

There were a few areas the doctor was concerned about so she did a sonogram on those areas.

The u/s showed many, many benign cysts. I've known about these for years.

But then there was one cyst that was very round and when it was pressed, it didn't flatten out and change shape like the others. Also, instead of looking like a black hole on the screen, it was a little grey-ish. [Eek!]

The radiologst said it could be a fluid filled cyst or a fibroadema (sp) which is benign or it could be a cancerous tumor. [Frown]

I'll have to get a surgeon to do a biopsy or removal.

Here is my question for Lymenet:

Since I have been on ABX for two months for Lyme and have gotten a lot of full, painful lymph nodes, could this be a lymph node?

Could it be a cyst filled with spyrochetes and that's wjh it's slightly darker and harder than the rest?

I'm scared.

I am sorry you are going through this. I don't have any answers for you but wanted to say I have had breast cysts before and was told by a surgeon I needed one removed.

When I received a second opinion by another surgeon I was told nothing needed to be removed and everything was normal. This was years ago so I do think it was a normal cyst.

Hopefully your cyst will be fine and try not to worry until you get it addressed further. Just make sure you follow up on it and do not be afraid to get a second opinion if you need to.

I had an abnormal mammogram (and a PAP - same visit), and neither follow-up led to either a breast or cervical cancer diagnosis. LD messes with your hormones, so try not to worry yourself unnecessarily about breast cancer, but do get it checked out. It's probably nothing. Good luck.

do followup PROMPTLY! don't put it off ok!

my sister was 32 when they discovered a fast-growing breast cancer 5 months after mom died from colon to liver cancer.

they did the biopsy and found TWO different types of breast cancer! she'd found a lump 1st and reproted it promptly.

they put her off since she had a hysterectomy earlier. then her nipple started bleeding and they decided tosee her that day!

so take good care of yourself. we had my sis for another 6.5 yrs. after being cancer-free!

BEST WISHES FOR NON-CANCER! [group hug] [kiss]

Please do not panic!

Have a thorough exam.

I had the same, so did other women I know with lyme, lots of strange bumps.....I thought I had breast cancer byut those where benign, and------are vanishing with abx, so I think those might be borrelia-lumps.

Borrelia is known to make lumps in the body, esp. on the ears but sometimes other places as well.

Take care!

I know how worrisome this can be. I know cervical cancer found early is not as scary, but I've been up and down with my paps and with my first bad pap, I felt like it was the end of the world. I had to have a biopsy and it was fine...yet still continued to have bad paps.

Funny thing, after I started abx, they went to completely normal except for yeast. I have another follow up this month, I'm really anxious to see what it says and I'm trying to hurry up and de-yeast before then, just because I was worried that some how the yeast interfered with them and made them look better than they really were.

I have swollen lymph nodes (sometimes huge) in my groin - and it always makes me worry. I also have 1 in my neck. But biopsy of those proved no cancer.

Even hearing the C word (seems liked I have heard it too much this year for a 27 year old, been tested for ovarian, Lymphoma, cervical in like 6 months time and that's aside from my Lyme drama!) makes you frantic and feel so scared - and helpless.

I am a person who likes to be in control and with certain diseases, your life is in other people's hands - and I can't STAND that. I WANT TO FIX MY OWN PROBLEMS. (Only problem, I don't have a medical degree, but probably should considering all the crap I've read on the internet over this past year [Razz] )

My mom has large breasts, so it's always been hard for her to do self breast exams. She got a suspicious mammogram and she had to have a biopsy, it was very scary for all of us. It turned out fine! Unfortunately she has heart disease and Hep. C. and she looks sicker than ever. [Frown]

My GREAT grandma had breast cancer in both breasts, took out all those lymph nodes around there and everything, and she ended up dying at the age of almost 100 of gang green of her intestines. And that was back in the OLD DAYS.

I think you will be OK. The chances of you actually having breast cancer seem pretty low - I don't think I remember you mentioning it running in your family. I will keep you in my prayers and wishing you luck.

Keep us posted, okay? We will all be thinking about you. The faster you deal with it, the faster you'll be done with the worry. That's how I always look at things. I was demanding biopsies right and left. I wanted to know.

I know myself and I know I will obsess over it till it's over and done with (whatever that means.)

I did not want to leave thei office yesterday till I had an appointment set up for a biopsy. I would have done it right then if I had an available and willing surgeon.

The radiologist called my OB to get a referral to a surgeon but he was with a patient. She SAID she left a message but I got home and called his office and they said no message. I called the radiologist's office and begged them to please call my ob before 3:00 because he was leaving. They said they needed to write up a report first to fax to him.

These people's lack of urgency ****ess me off. Cancer (if that's what it is) spreads fast! I don't have a lot of time for people to be playing phone tag. I feel like going to a surgeon's office on Monday and camping out till she or he is forced to operate on me. [Wink]

Ear cysts... yes, i have had those all my life and just got another one. Didn't even know that was Lyme... interesting.

Maybe in the mean time you can get an MD to do a needle aspiration on the cyst until you can get everything else done. I had an aspiration done once on a breast cyst and it did ease my fears.

I had my lumpectomy today.

I have to wait till next week to see what it is that's been growing in there.

I'm scared but hoping for the best. [Frown]

On the upside, I'm having very few Lyme symptoms after only three months of abx.
