Don't worry, it's all a clinical Dx. We love to hear that. [Smile] Famous words of a Lyme patient. I wish I did know the answer and am interested in hearing it.

I have noticed nearly any presumptions / conditions / treatment recommended on Lymenet is shunned by mainstrem medicine. [Smile] This is like the opposite dimension. Candida, Leaky Gut, Lyme and co-infections, dowsing, throid issues in absence of abnormal tests, adrenal fatigue outside Cushings Syndrome, hypercoagulation, heavy metal toxicity outside of blood / urine tests, rifing, bionic 880, IgG delayed food allergies, multiple chemical sensitivity, and on and on and on.

Lymenet is a regular doc's worst enemy. [Smile] That sure doesn't mean people aren't helped though. I don't buy into all the stuff on here, but there are incredibly smart members with novel ideas. Modern medicine doesn't know it all either.

Well how foolish of any doctor to not know or believe in leaky gut.

#1-Yale University study on AIDS found that 70% of our immune system is in our gut. Soooo I would think doctors would get a clue that illness and healing begin in the gut.

#2-There is a fine balance of bacterias in our gut. When we take antibiotics the friendly bacteria are killed off and the yeast becomes a bad form called Candida Albicans. The Candida actually eats the mucosa lining on the intestinal walls. Intestinal walls are porous to allow properly digested food into the bloodstream to nourish the body. This porous wall becomes damaged by the Candida and the holes in the wall become enlarged now allowing partically digested food as well as bacteria and parasites and fungi into our body that were never meant to be there and illness results.

I can't see why mainstream medicine has such a problem understanding this. Perhaps because there is not a patented prescription drug yet to heal it.

BTW, the medical doctors I work with do believe in leaky gut and helped me heal mine.

Even the duck rheumatologist that first diagnosed my R.A. and felt my lyme was in my past recognized leaky gut syndrome and the damaging effects it can have on the body. He just didn't have much of a clue how to fix it, but he sure didn't deny its existence.

If your doctor doesn't believe in it, maybe you need to change doctors.

You got it. Is it a coincidence there's 3 drug reps in every office at any given time?

There are doctors who test and treat for this, who are covered by insurance and "in the system." You could try to find one who treats food allergies, which would lead to investigation of leaky gut.

A nutritionist/chiropractor in our area also tests and treats.

One of our family members actually had an endoscopy, to see what was going on in her gut. The endoscopy found lots of yeast in her GI tract. But the mainstream doc only prescribed two weeks of fluconazole, and also prescribed Prilosec, which actually encourages yeast and further throws off balance, by decreasing natural acid.

There are labs that test for leaky gut (and Yeast). They are sort of alternative tests, but we got them covered because the food allergy doc we saw had one foot in the mainstream and was covered.

Dizzy,

In my case the bacteria H. Pylori was sabotaging my efforts to heal my leaky gut. Once we treated the H.P. antibiotically, treatment for the gut took off and my health status escalated.

Derek,

Sorry no one is coming up with the test. Just find a medical doctor who specializes in alternative healing. They should know how to identify and fix your leaky gut.

Susan
