First, thanks Keebler for posting. I saw it once before and lost it.

It seems Dr. B highly recommends Pharmanex. Does he have financial ties in any way to this company? Kickbacks? I'm just trying to understand the relationship. You don't often see a doctor recommend a supplement manufactuer so specifically.

Next question: If you take a liquid multi-vitamin such as Nature's Alive, do you still need a B-50 complex? I know Nature's Alive has B vitamins in it. It's a comprehensive product. I take 2,000 mcg of B-12 daily (sublingual). Is this enough?

Dr. B recommends Life-Pak multi-vitamin. Again, I'm sure it's ridicolously costly and I don't have that much extra $$$.

Next question: Who takes Mag-Tab SR from Wal-Mart? What is the cost?

Do you all take plant AND fish oil daily? It seems like so much fat to consume. I don't have any plant oil. What kinds do you take it you do? How much?

What is NT-Factor? How much does it cost? I looked at Researched Nutritionals website and it looks like they don't disclose the cost. it's sold only to docs. I hate that marketing approach. It allows for more mark-up on a second level. Anyone think it's worth it based on personal experiences? Where on earth you purchaser it if you don't see Dr. B? My LLMD doesn't have or recommend supplements.

I know a lot of questions. I'm just trying to understand Dr. B's needed supplements. I won't discuss optional ones. I think those were pretty clear. I don't have enough time in a day or money to pop that many beyond what I do!

Hi Seek,

I really dont think he is pushing any of those companies but just gave his recommendations on what he likes or found to be most effective.

Liquid vitamins are really supposed to be the most effective, but I cant do those, so I just take a really good brand B complex (100) that has no yeast recommended by my health food guy.

The packs of vitamins are supposed to be more potent, but there are other brands out there that are probably just as good, such as Rainbow Light, etc. Comparing the ingredients is really the best way to choose a good vitamin. Some are so potent they can make you nauseous.

My LLMD recommend a slow release magnesium too. Not necessarily that brand. Have to try the Slow Mag when I get to Walmart.

There are also lots of good fish oil products with lemon. She gave me a sample of a brand Omega-3. Fish oil is recommended for people in good health not just lymies, but again my LLMD insists that I take it too. (i dont, cant get that sucker down) lol

Im thinking that the message Dr. B is trying to convey is that we need to get our immune systems back up to speed by taking our supplements.

I do not know much about the NT Factor? Can anyone else help out on this as I would like to know myself.

I just started a supp with NT-Factor. It's supposed to jump-start the mitochondria. It's known as a chronic fatigue supplement and since fatigue is my biggest symptom I thought that I'd give it a try.

This place has the trademark on its name I believe:

Nutritional Therapeutics, Inc.
http://www.ntfactor.com/

Can you tell me what the approximate cost is for a 1 month supply? Did you get it direct from your LLMD? Other source?

To be honest, I'm really skeptical about its effectiveness. I just started the supp today. I'm willing to give anything a shot though.

I think Dr. B recommends this site for the NT Factor:

http://www.researchednutritionals.com/

I'm not sure what they charge.

I bought mine through Amazon from a distributor called ProHealth. See below:

https://www.prohealth.com//shop/product.cfm/product__code/PH195

It's not cheap. 50.49 for 90 pills but you have to take several a day in most cases.

Supps are expensive in general let alone the ones that tout 40-60% reduction in fatigue....

A very interesting outlook on Dr. B's supplement recommendations by the doc we discussed doing the blog. If his comments ring true, it's a bit disturbing.

http://lymemd.blogspot.com/2008/07/am-i-lyme-literate.html

I assumed Dr. B used these on himself. How could he so easily cure himself if others need so much? Was he fighting the same disease(s)? It seems a bit fishy to me. Who knows.

Well, supps and meds alike are shots in the dark. What may work for some won't work for others. Some studies have suggested that vitmain D may prevent cancer while recent studies suggest D does nothing to stop breast cancer.

So if there is a basic rationale behind a particular supplement and it is regarded as relatively safe, I'm willing to give it a shot because doing something is better than doing nothing. We sometimes reap this idea through the placebo effect.

While the MD makes some sense there, i'd rather try and fail than not try at all.

One thing I agree with. He said: "Viral infections frequently trigger quiescent Lyme." This is exactly what happened to me following a bout of mono....

LymeorSomething, the docs never tested for Lyme / co-infections. They went for 10 years assuming neuromuscular disease issues. How stupid. They saw what they wanted to I believe.
