Hi,
I'm pretty sick right now but I saw your question and wanted to try to share my experience when I had/have it.

I had horrible nausea, headache and fever that lasted for a while. I'm sorry, I don't remember exactly how long.

Then I broke out in a rash that started on the soles of my feet and palms of my hands, and then migrating up my lower legs and my whole hands up to my wrist I think.

Still had fever, hands and feet swelled soooo bad, burned and some itching but mostly burning if I remember right.

My joints in my knuckles, ankles and knees where extremely painful and swollen, then my hips.

I really believe that the only thing that saved me as I was sooooo sick was my Dr. treated me for infectious arthritis when I got bake home with 5 days of Rocephin IM.

I was on vacation when I became extremely ill. I remember digging my feet into the cold dirt a long the river bank as they hurt and burned so bad.

I also remember waking up and not being able to open anything as my hands were too swollen and painful.

The joint pain and fever lasted about 2 months, and then came and went for about 5 years. Then it hit me hard neurologically; have been disabled ever since.

I have Babesia WA1, Lyme and RMSF, but I feel that the 5 days of Rocephin slowed it way down, only the RMSF for then.

It can be a very dangerous strain as I'm sure you already know. If you suspect you have it, get to a Dr.

I hope that helps some.
Take care!

Thanks for bringing this up BG.

Hey Tree...

I already had Lyme ... got treated 1/2 way for it... got bit more times.. got sicker.... so can't really separate ONLY the RMSF symptoms from Lyme and other coinfections.

I can say I told the doctor at the time that it felt like I had Lyme.. but 10 times worse. These are some of the symptoms I remember.

Fever was one thing that was more regular with RMSF than Lyme... and the fevers were higher.

Extreme exhaustion.

Headaches... splitting headaches.

My eyes hurt.. probably due to fever?

My feet were the ONLY thing on me that didn't hurt.

Wish I could help more. You might check out the article...

"Overlooked Infections Associated With Lyme Disease" that I wrote a while back. It lists some RMSF symptoms and may help answer your questions?

Hope so.

Daughter diagnosed with RMSF, after original diagnosis of lyme , ehrlichiosis, myco, toxo, EBV, etc.

Treated for chrlichiosis with no response. Then the LLMC tested for RMSF, was positive. Treated for RMSF, went away in 4 month..supossedly gone through blood labs.

Symptoms, we don't know how to discern the diference in symptoms between co's and lyme and RMSF.

She still gets occasional fevers at 3:00 pm, has acne that sometimes looks like a rash mixed with acne. Her headaches, migrain style are gone (could have been RMSF), and her joing pains have decreased, but still present.

Can we believe the lab's that her RMSF is gone, or does it hide like lyme when antibiotica sre in use? She was n Doxy for RMSF.

I don't know when I got RMSF. It could have been 20 yrs ago, or 5 yrs ago or any time in between.
I don't know how to tell a difference as to what causes what symptom.

I'm only being treated for Lyme right now. My LLMD hasn't said anything about treating for the RMSF. I was under the impression that it didn't have to be treated... I don't know much about it honestly.

I never got a RMSF rash.
