I hope someone can help me. I received a call from a mom who's daughter was bitten by a tick. It was engorged and embedded. The mom is a smart one and did research.
The pedi wanted to take a "wait and see" approach but the mom knows better. She was able to convice the Pedi to give her 2 weeks abx much to the pedi's dismay. The mom read that 4-6 weeks would be best, but the pedi laughed at her.
I told her I would find some medical journal articles or studies to back up 4-6 weeks or abx. Can someone help me find this info? I am not good at finding it although I will try.
The child is 19 months old, no symptoms yet, and on amoxi. Mom is making an appt with Dr. J. but cant get in until May.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks, Melissa

Here is plenty of evidence for the persistence of the bacteria after standard doses of antibiotics...if the ped is willing to read AND has an open mind.
I used this info in court recently to document the possibility that there's still an infection after antibiotic treatment, in addition to the lab results showing an active bacterial infection.
Good luck!
