Nice work CDC!
Most antibiotics are used in livestock in the US, far more than in people. There has already been proven links to this overuse of antibiotics in animals to treatment-resistant disease.
If the IDSA were anything other than a big bunch of hypocrities, they would be want to address this larger issue. Instead, they torment seriously ill people and try to deprive them of treatment, and persecute doctors that save lives.
I guess the IDSA believes that we are so ill that we are easier targets than the powerful economic interests who actually overuse antibiotics in agriculture.

This is why I shop at Whole Foods and Trader Joes. They may still have that problem but probably not to the same extent.

The only answer I can ever find to the policies of the IDSA and other organizations that do not seem to be protecting us is to find ways to combat the issues in my personal life, VL. I wish there were other measures to take to get them to be responsive to us, let alone take our health into consideration.
We shop at Whole Foods and other similar grocery stores as well hoping that this will help also.
My father-in-law has been eating garlic cloves his whole life with his food and won't be without it. Lemon/lime might also help kill some bacteria in food/meats, not to mention the wine marinade. I also sometimes wonder if salting food in pre-cooking/marinade can help? And there was a recent discussion also about using ginger and tumeric in foods as there is a lower incidence of some diseases in other cultures (India, specifically). We are also careful with our vegetables and use ozonated water to soak them in.
Not sure that any of these things, however, would work against c difficile...
