I have tested very positive for Babesia, bartonolla and Lyme, 10 bands Wb.

After 5 months of treatment I am feeling better, but still not OK. Tired all the time and cognitive.

My LLMD suggested a FISH test to see levels of babesia, however my insurance will not cover this.

It's 200. Do others think it's worth it. What will it show me? And if I contine treatment will I need this a few times to monitor the loads in my blood.

To be starting bicillian shots next week, but am still concerned about babesia and bartonolla.
Thanks

Positive 10 bands WB IGG & IGM
+ Babesia + Bartonolla and NOW RMSF 3/5/09 all at Quest

And still positive ELISA and WB two years after IV treatment

I tested negative via the Fish through Igenex.

However, it only tests 2 of the 13+ strains known.

I am on my 3rd round of babesia treatment.

Four months in and just started drenching night sweats again this week. [shake]

Just my humble opinion. May want to treat until symptom free.

Hugs,

Geneal

For us it was an important test. My son has been sick for 12 years--we knew he had Lyme and Bart, both pos. by PCR, and we suspected Babesia. He had been treated for a few weeks a couple of times.

His FISH came back positive in April. They visualize the organisms in the RBC's so it's considered very definitive. For us this is major, b/c now we know that we need to treat long term.

I don't know what the schedule is for re-testing, if there is one. It's just good to know that he has active infection so we can treat and not feel like we're shooting in the dark.

I also tested positive in April for babs via the fish. I also now have confirmation for what many llmd thought i had. Its good for me to know what I have to treat now and how much money I need to shell out for the malarone.

My Fish through Igenex was also positive as was one of the other tests. The other test was positive by IGENEX standards, not CDC standards.

If you get a positive, is it a good indicator or are there false positives? I was hoping this helped me realize I DO have this bug and others.

what are night sweats??? I haven't had those.

I tested negative twice at Igenex for Babs. The last one that I tried there was the FISH. I don't think that it's any where close to as accurrate as they claim that it is.

I almost gave up on checking for it after that, but when Dr F came along with the blood smears, I figuered that I better make sure, and it's a good thing that I did because it was a big fat positive.

If the $200 isn't a big deal for you, then I say go ahead and try it, but just don't be so sure that you don't have it if it comes back negative.

You're only a failure when you stop trying.

What do you mean, Dr F? I thought the blood smear was the FISH? My Babs FISH came back positive in July and I have been on Mepron and Azyth for 4 months. They are re-testing me next month. I am wondering if a positive is prettyaccurate, meaning could it be a false positive?
