My son was on Flagyl for a month and then finally we quit because we couldn't take the herxes.
He's 9 and was missing too much school. His herxes were headaches, complete exhaustion, aches all over, joint pain, dizzy, etc. etc. but THE WORST: is the depression! Listening to him say he wants to die, and wishing his life was over is unbearable for a mother to hear! He was like a zombie, with no emotion at times, and very sad!!!
He's off now since Dec. 1, but still feeling these bad "episodes" described above almost 1 - 2 times every week.
Is this normal, to have herxes once your are already off? And why?
Please help I am really starting to get worried this is never going away?
Thanks for your insight! Laura

I don't know, but given what I've read about the neurotoxicity of the drugs in that family, I don't ever plan on taking one. It seems like they have to be used in heroic doses to treat Lyme, and since you never are cured anyway, I just don't see the point.

Yes they can. I pulsed flagyl and the reactions lasted 6 weeks. After 2 weeks it started to get less and less each day.

Flagyl has a half life of about 3 days.
That may be a question best answered by your LLMD.
Maybe something else going on here.
Maybe a co-infection (bartonella springs to mind).
