I have been prescribed Nystatin, but it is the liquid kind. I'm supposed to swish and swallow. I've done searches on here and it seems most take the pill form. Does it matter?

I'm not sure if I have yeast. My tongue burns, but is not white. I've also been made aware that yeast can cause brain fog. I have serious brain fog.

So please, anyone have suggestions or know anything about the liquid Nystatin?

Thanks.

Liquid form has some sugar in it--
I think it has to be kept in fridge-

Powder Form of Nystatin is the most
effective by far --
10X stronger than pill form--

Yeast will cause gas- bloating- itch-
and brain fog and other things --Jay--

Liquid Nystatin has to be kept at room temperature. Do NOT refrigerate.

Works great for me.

Nystatin works well for me too.

Guest a question.

Can you tell the anti-yeast medicine is working by checking your tongue?

I that a good indicator?

It would matter to ME since the liquid contains sugar. That would be a deal breaker for me.

I always took the pill form. I hear the powder type tastes nasty. (hence the sugar in the liquid)

my pharmacist doesn't even stock the powder, but he says it's more effective.

you have to specifically ask for the powder as most docs give the liquid.

Hey groovy,

You said.. "Powder Form of Nystatin is the most effective by far -- 10X stronger than pill form--"

Do you have any documentation for that? Or is it an opinion?

Got me curious.

Hey K... the non-sugar form is so nasty a skunk wouldn't use it for long. I tried and it got to where I would gag... so I stopped using it.. with consequences.

The sugar in it is for a reason. Be glad it is. The benefit outweighs the little sugar you will get.

Also... the liquid form was prescribed most likely because it will work on mouth yeast or thrush.

It works very well .. takes about two weeks minimum to see good results... and be sure to have NO sugars during that time.

Good luck!

Something about the formulation of the Nystatin liquid with sugar in it is good and makes it work better. (that comes from a top LLMD's mouth) lord knows why but apparently its good. I like the powder better though.

For those of you that take the liquid form how much do you take and how often? I believe mine is 1 tablespoon up to four times daily. Does that sound right?

Also those of you that are on a sugar free diet, what do you eat??

does it work only in the mouth or does it treat overall yeast?

seems if it goes to the stomach it would.

Diflucan is absorbed into the blood, Nystatin is not absorbed and stays in the GI system only.

You might want to check the ingredients of the powder vs. the suspension liquid. I've not searched the ingredients for the powder regarding fillers, etc. but I took a look at the liquid list.

There's a lot of stuff in the liquid I sure would not want to consume. The sucrose in it seems like something a LLMD would not prescribe. Puzzling. But more puzzling than the sucrose is the presence of aluminum, petroleum product (parabens) and artificial stuff.

See: http://www.rxlist.com/nystatin-oral-suspension-drug.htm

Was this liquid what was prescribed by your LLMD or is it what the pharmacy gave you (maybe they were out of form without so many additives)?

If you doctor prescribed another form, you can check the ingredients of that compared with the oral form. If prescribed a different form, the pharmacy should get that for you. If you can get it without any additives, that would be great. You can always add a touch of stevia (from a plant source) if you need to.

Olive leaf extract worked like a charm for me. You might ask your doctor about using that.

Herb Pharm also makes many good tinctures for oral care.
