COuld I get opinions on this? I've been on doxy (200 mg for week one, 400 for weeks two and three) and added azithromycin at 125 this tuesday, and I'm to work up to 250. I have ban 41 only, my kids have congenital (older son with 5 bands, not all cdc) and I've been diagnosed by symptoms by an LLMD. Burrascano's guidelines say tha azithromycin in slightly effective. Maybe this isn't the best route?

Bite was in 1985. Diagnosed in October or so.

Thanks.

Oral azithromycin is the least effective macrolide, I believe. I tried it for a few weeks and didn't notice any difference.

That's not to say that it won't help you. You have an intracellular agent and an extracellular agent working together, so you should have some benefit.

I noticed little from 2+ months of Zith alone from my LLMD. I think Biaxin / Ceftin may have been a bit better. Lucky me now as my LLMD put me back on Zith alone this month. I really, really don't agree with this protocol. He seems to have much more faith in Zith than 99% of LLMDs and obviousl doesn't care what Dr. B writes. [Frown]

I've talked on the phone with people from the Michigan Lyme Assn. For some zith was a lifesaver and the other meds didn't work as well. For others like me, it gives me terrible emotional herxes. I also have read on this board that the brand name zith is better than the TEVA generic zith.

I think it depends on the person. I think LLMD's like to try it. If it works fine. If not, try something else. It's all trial and error with this DD anyway.

IMO, CherylSue

I started with 600 mg of zith alone a few months ago and noticed immediate improvement in my muscle twitches, air hunger, and knee pain. Now I have added Flagyl on the weekends.

My LLMD wants me to switch to just doxy and flagyl. I am procrastinating because I am afraid my symptoms will come back if I give up the zith.

My daughter, with a different LLMD, takes zith, doxy, and Mepron. She is doing better with this combination than she has on doxy or zith alone.
