3 Smart Things About Sleeping Late By Daniel Dumas 12.22.08
You may need more sleep than you think.
Research by Henry Ford Hospital Sleep Disorders Center found that people who slept eight hours and then claimed they were "well rested" actually performed better and were more alert if they slept another two hours. That figures. Until the invention of the lightbulb (damn you, Edison!), the average person slumbered 10 hours a night.
Night owls are more creative.
Artists, writers, and coders typically fire on all cylinders by crashing near dawn and awakening at the crack of noon. In one study, "evening people" almost universally slam-dunked a standardized creativity test. Their early-bird brethren struggled for passing scores.
Rising early is stressful.
The stress hormone cortisol peaks in your blood around 7 am. So if you get up then, you may experience tension. Grab some extra Zs! You'll wake up feeling better!

My husband gets up at 4am for work, and gets home at 6pm.
I don't know how he lives.

I get to sleep usually around 10:00pm.
Wake up without an external alarm around 3:30 to 4:30 am.
I am tired for sure.
However, once my brain starts processing info...
Well, I won't be going back to sleep.
I think that people slumbered for at least 10 hours a night
Prior to electricity due to a couple of things.
One would be manual labor/exercise.
No cars, machinery, etc.
Cows were milked by hand, cotton picked by hand,
Chickens chased and killed for supper.
Secondly, besides being physically worn out from the day,
There was no TV to watch. Other than each other,
Not much entertainment going on.
Just a hunch though.
I sure wish I could sleep later.
Hugs,
Geneal

I sleep from around 11:00 or 12:00 until 3:30 or 4:00am. After that I might get lucky and doze off and on for a few hours.
This is the best I have slept since I became ill. Insomnia has been a problem for me. I would looove to get 10 hours of sleep! Hey, I would love to get 7 hours of sleep!
