Hi Eric,
I just looked xanax up. It said do not take if you are taking sporonax or nizoral.(antifungals) You should google it in and see what other things you need to be aware of. How much are you taking?
Be careful, they are highly addictive and very hard to detox from. I am sure they probably help but please be smart about it.
How are you doing otherwise?
Take Care,
Gael

but feeling actually worse all around and all over, weaker, and headaches, all over mild pain aches, more tired and more fatigue like, less desire to do anything and less apetite, less of just all the things i once wanted to do, than i did when two weeks ago i was old i had Lyme...
so is all this a Herx, Depression, Rapid Diesease Progression ???
Overall upset...

I will just give you a SERIOUS word of advice. This benzodiazapine is outlawed in England for use over 2 weeks. This is one of the most addictive drugs ever created. My doctor gave it to me when I first got sick...2 years ago, on a very low dose and I got physically addicted. I had to detoxed at a detox unit. I have seen this RUIN people's lives...many of them and mine personnally. Address the core problem. Find out what is really causing the problem and treat it. This only masks the underlying problem and then it destroys your life. It works the same as alcohol and is VERY dangerous to quit. I would stop taking it or cut my doses in half every other day, before it is too late.

I think klonopin is a better benzo for sleep and long-term use. It's longer-half life means it stays in your body longer (takes lower dose to keep you asleep all night) and is also less likely to result in dependency.
As Amanda mentioned, I also use the term "dependency" because that's really what it is. True addiction involves psychological issues and often drug-seeking behavior. Dependency is simply the physiological result of taking something daily for enough time that your body will have withdrawal effects if you stop cold turkey.
There are many worse prescription drugs (including many SSRIs) to become dependent on, so I don't buy into the benzo fears. I've easily weaned myself off of klonopin several times, but a minor decrease in Effexor will make me so nauseous and dizzy that I can't handle it. I've also gotten "brain zaps" that feel like seizures from missing only half a day of Effexor.
I even found it harder to withdrawal from caffeine than klonopin.
I also think klonopin and the other benzos are much safer than the "newer" sleep drugs like Ambien. Have you ever heard of someone walking, eating, and driving in their sleep from a benzo?

I tried Ambien both the CR and the regular, did nothing for me...
Did not put me to sleep.
I do believe that I am getting more dependant on this Xanax thing as when my supply runs low I start to panic, and also then I have steadily increased my own dosages as well.
Ofcourse prior to Lyme and feeling ill and all this, I did smoke Pot alot, so this kinda replaced it in a way to help mellow me out and take the edge off from the depression as well as with sleep...
So what to do, I seem to like Xanax and do see myself slowly but surely getting addicted.
Oh Gosh...
???

I have never had any problems with xanax. I took it years ago for anxiety and when the anxiety got better, I very quickly weaned off of it without any problems. I take it now, for the past 2 and 1/2 years and have not had any problems.
As long as you don't find yourself taking more and more, then I don't see the harm. To me it's just a matter of discipline. Don't let yourself get addicted! If you see a problem developing then get off of it. Use common sense with any and all drugs that you take.

Hi, guess like all is diff. for all. I do not know what all the whoop-la is on it. Never really did much for me had 6 mo. supply at 1 time. Tried to use for sleep, as we all know eventually not same, especially cheap generics, with check fillers. Taken & & not, no 1 know the diff. including me?
Do what you have to do, worry about addictions later if you get well...RIGHT? Should not be top on list what you need to be concerned about. Just do what works for you & not others. :grouphug:Hugggssss, to all in need

thank you.
Eric,
Our LLMD gave us scripts for Xanax (alprazolam) to use as needed. The dose he prescribed is .25 mg. My son takes .5 mg at bedtime for sleep, along with 2 other sleep meds. I take Trazodone for sleep.

For sleep, calcium and magnesium work very well, especially if you take them in a liquid form, not pills. Some magnesium and calcium/magnesium products are powders that you mix with hot water. I personally use A to B Calm and Natural Calm.
If you have a situation where thinking about things keeps you awake, B Complex, with additional B 1 works really, really well. I've personally used B Complex tablets and brewer's yeast, and both are effective.
I would use these first! Especially for children, as most psychiatric drugs are not approved for children--their brains are still forming, and the side effects for the rest of their lives can be horrific.
Hope this helps.

With anything you take, you have to consider the effect on the liver. And, same with your overall protocol. If you liver is not happy, it can create the very symptoms for which sedatives are used.
Elevated heavy metal levels are common in lyme patients. Therefore, heavy metal testing - and, if needed, detox can make a huge difference in the body's ability to be calm.
So, as you figure out which meds work best, if you are sure your meds are as easy on your liver as possible and your liver support/detox plan is up to speed, you may find you will need less sedatives as the infection(s) get under control.
Mentioned above, magnesium is a great help for the liver to detox and it is also VERY calming - if taken up to bowel tolerance.
I find Holy Basil (Tulsi) also to be an excellent calming agent. It also blocks some of the harmful effects of excess cortisol, which is a huge problem with lyme.
B-vitamins (during the day) are also essential to the ability of the nerve fibers to be able to not get too ruffled.
Both Singleton's book and Burrascano's guidelines detail many ways to calm the endocrine and nervous systems. For heavy metal detox, search for posts here from GiGi - or just "heavy metal" for threads.

I take Diflucan and Xanax and/or Ativan together. The Diflucan can make the Benzo stronger but I've done the benzos with and without the Diflucan and don't notice a difference. Your pharmacist or physician can adjust the dosage accordingly if needed.
I've been using Xanax for many years and only use it when I need it (no withdrawl for me). I started using Ativan everynight to sleep as it has a longer half life and works better for me. I have been on the same dose (1mg) for about three years without having to increase my dose.
Having said all this, I am totally aware that if I were to totally go off of Benzos I would definately wean myself off.
In 2006 I was on 3 Benzos (I was suicidal) and was able to wean down very quickly.
I think Benzos work well for some and are not good for others.

I also take Xanax and Diflucan. My LLMD and my pharmacist never mentioned I could not take them together.
I have been taking Xanax 0.5 mg twice a day since May. I have not needed to take more than that since then. When I am herxing or when I am having a lot of anxiety, they get me through the day.
They can be addictive and you must wean yourself off them if you have been taking them for a long time, as the others mentioned.
