I just added this yesterday. I took 3 drops yesterday and 3 drops today (mixed with lots of water).

All I can say is wow- immediate sinus headache within a half an hour both times and crushing fatigue. Today within one hour of taking it, I had diarrhea (only got this one other time with a herx like reaction).

My lyme symptoms are pretty much under control lately. However, I still suffer with a clogged ear (left ear) with pulsatile tinnitus in this same ear and sound sensitivity. Not sure if it is lyme or something else like candida.

Anyone else find this strong? What do you think it is hitting since it is causing a sinus headache? hmmmmm......

I was going to add lauriciden, but I'll wait awhile and just keep taking this alone, maybe add the lauriciden in a week or two.

The only other supplements I am taking right now are grapefruit seed extract and probiotics.

This stuff is definitely powerful.... and I am only taking 3 drops once a day!

Maureen-oil of oregano is great stuff. I have to get some more.

I buy empty capsules from the health food store (four cents ea.)and put the drops into the capsules. Much easier to take.

Best wishes!

I felt it was better to take something in an enteric capsule like New Chapter's Oregano Force. I'm not sure if taking straight drops of oregano oil are safe. Anyone else comment...

Maureen,

I agree with Bob. The brand he mentions would be my first choice - and with food, starting out. I am concerned that the reaction you are getting is too harsh on your body.

Please look at the label of your oregano oil. Is it just oregano oil - or a formula with other ingredients? Even if in a formula, it seems to be too strong for your body.

These oils are VERY strong and can seriously burn the delicate lining from the mouth down to the intestines. This could even cause an ulcer that could bleed, it can be that strong.

It is good that you mixed with a lot of water but, if a pure essential oil, it can still burn. It would need to be cut with another "carrier" oil first - and even then can burn skin.

Oils that burn are safest in a pre-made gelcap. Some here make their own but some capsules can dissolve too soon and you can get residue on the outside of the capsule that can still burn.

I hope you find what works for you.

Good luck.

====

For example, this liquid Oreg. Oil liquid formula is cut with olive oil. This site also has gelcaps.

www.vitacost.com/NSI-Oregano-Oil#IngredientFacts

Wild oregano oil (Origanum vulgare) (standardized to a minimum 70% carvacrol, 90 mg)

Other Ingredients: Cold pressed extra virgin olive oil.

========

This is the brand of enteric-designed gelcaps that Bob recommends. It also contains olive oil in the capsule:

Essential oils such oregano oil -- specifically oregano oil can disolve biofilms in the body. Monolaurin increases the efficacy of the oregano oil by enhancing the immune system and it is antiviral and antibacterial. Combine that with freeze dried garlic and you might just get rid of lyme with that combination. I added MMS and lightworks.

Once you get rid of lyme, you still don't get rid of your symptoms. And instead of saying why that is, ask yourself why that would be.

Sounds like a herx reaction, and my guess would be fungal dieoff. And also resembles my reaction to my my first (1 drop) doseage.

Back off to 1 drop daily and work your way up to the 3 drops. You can put it in capsules if you don't prefer the day long pizza scent. I was told to put 1 drop under my tongue, and then wait 3 days to try again. Needless to say, it burned so much I never took it without putting it in a capsule again.

Sounds fungal (candida) to me, which would explain the headache, tinnitus, clogged ear, and the runs.

Thanks everyone!

The oil of oregano is actually mixed with olive oil and the directions say that you can take it internally mixed with water.

It is by Won with Nature. It was mentioned in an earlier post and I much prefer taking liquids instead of pills, so that is why I decided to try this over the New Chapter.

Is it okay to take this if it is mixed with lots of water? I definitely don't want to cause an ulcer or some other problems. I don't feel notice much burning because I really dilute it with water.

I didn't get the headache or runs with today's dosage. Will keep everyone posted.

Thanks! Seems like powerful stuff.

I am taking 4 drops in water. but, I have not taken any sense I had the head stuff, pain in the eyeball as if someone was poking me with a stick, and throwing up.

Just kind of scanned the posts and kind of think it might have been the oil of oregano.

It was the same reaction I get when I over do it which usually includes eating foods that make things worse because I am out with others and not paying attention to my body and brain.

Will take a couple drops tonight.

I just started taking this today. Oil of oregano by Source Naturals... and WHEW is this stuff strong! It says to take it in water, juice or milk.. YUCK! I took it in water. It did make my throat tingle a little and the taste sticks with you for a while.

Yes it is in Cold pressed Olive oil and safe to put on your skin as well.

Oregano 73 is strong, I can put two drops on my skin at night without major problems now. I am also on 6 allicin ( garlic) which might add to the response.
But definitely it makes headache and eye pain when you start using it.
I love to put the oils on my skin. When my heart
is beating too hard I just wash the drops off and it is getting better.
