I feel a nasal drip back of throat. I take banadyrl at night, it helps me sleep. But it feels like this drip won't go away, creating clear mucus, and dripping in my lungs, and staying there, making me cough. I am going nuts here trying to fiugre this it out.

Shoot, I was going to suggest Benadryl.
I'm not up on what kinds of antihistamines are on the market anymore. I used to take something called Actifed--kind of like Sudafed, but not a decongestant.
I honestly don't know if they srill make that or not.
Now, someone told me years ago to drink plaon tonic water for post-nasal drip. Something about it has quinine in it or whatever, and that's supposed to help.
I would talk to your LLMD before you try that, though. I don't know if quinine would hurt you or not.

I take a benadrll also,,and usually take a Lotradine(sp) ,,its the active ingredient in Claritan,,,generic over the counter.
Used to be ALOT cheaper than it is NOW.. Used to be able to buy a months supply for less than 4 bucks. now its over 10.
Otherwise my head is killing me by 10 am!! Timing is critical also,,,try taking in morning so you have 'better' days!!

My answer to this turned out to be eliminating soy.
(Not that this is your answer, but maybe the answer is in something you are taking/eating/or exposed to rather than in something you need to be taking.)

MY LLMD recommended a product called Xlear (pronounced clear, or x-clear). It is a non-medicated nasal spray that contains salien, grapefruit seed extract, and a sugar called Xylitol.
The xylitol is supposed to coat the membranes in you nose, and prevent yeast, bacteria, and viruses from attaching. I've been using it for about a month, and have had good results.

My most recent discovery is the www.Allergie-Immun.de test and short therapy. It alleviates most allergies, most importantly, it clears gluten and dairy. Something I never thought was possible. We are doing it right now.
My husband has the same drip-drip and is allergic to mercury, lead, copper and nickle. He is also allergic to wheat/gluten and soy, both are in almost everything. I just noticed corn in my apple pectin. Any of these can cause light or severe neurological problems.
The test also searches and treats inherited dysregulation of the ANS, i.e. all these strange reactions that seem to come from nowhere or "why can't I detox properly?" It is apparently difficult to detox a substance to which we react with an allergy.
We were not aware of a single allergy before this test, except I suspected the drip-drip.
So make sure you have that problem area covered. There is a lot more to Lyme than appears at the surface.

Claritin or Zyrtec will help dry up the drainage. These are 24hr antihistamines that you can buy over the counter.
12 hr Sudafed will help clear out your sinuses and thin out the drainage making it less likely to get "hung up" in your throat. This is also over the counter but you must request it at the pharmacy counter. It is kept behind the pharmacy counter because people used to buy mass quantities to make an illegal street drugs. Do not buy the "Sudafed PE" found in the regular aisles it is not as effective.
Also drink lots of fluids to help your body flush out whatever is causing this reaction. Chicken soup always seems to help.
And stop eating/drinking dairy products while you are sick. Dairy tends to make the mucus thicker.

I have the same problem, but it's on and off. I'm thinking it's allergy related, but seems like a lot of us lymies have this.

I have tried just about every oral and spray antihistamine out there, and the only one that stops my drip, drip, dripping nose is Stahist. Believe me, it will dry you up! I have let several relatives try it, and they cannot believe how well it works. (Disclaimer: I have not tried Atrovent yet, but I have an appt with my doctor to see if he will prescribe it for me.)
I have vasomotor rhinitis and do not have ANY allergies. Changes in temp from warm to cold cause my nose to drip incessantly (also if I just get a little chilled). Stahist (formerly called Ru-tuss)is only available by prescription, and your pharmacy may have to order it. It dries you up so much that you may end up with dry-mouth, which to me is a small price to pay when I am being active outdoors in the winter. Sometimes I just take half of a pill, but I still make sure I have water handy.
The only reason I know about Stahist is because my father had bad sinuses and used to take it. I tried it one time and could not believe how well it worked. However, I only take it when I really need it because it seems to become less effective if I use it continually for more than a few days.

Other than actually treating for allergies, I have found that the Xlear nasal spray works very, very well!
It's pretty cheap--you can get it at most health food stores and on the internet. It has no side effects at all. I notice I blow my nose a lot just after spritzing, but things are fine after that.

jason, i also have bad vasomotor rhinitis but its
bad everyday so i need something i can take
daily, can you take stahist daily? i use nasonex
spray which helps some but still bad congestion,
and no allergies

I have a continuous post nasal drip that started many years ago when I first started to be ill.
My sinuses are clear, it has nothing to do with a cold and so I came to the conclusion that it was allergy-based. It has never altered during my times of avoiding wheat, dairy and other allergens.
In subsequent years, particularly since my own research into amalgam removal [which I had done in 2000], I have also wondered whether this particular mucous, clear, not greenish as in an infection, is actually doing a protective, positive job [lining the body to protect from heavy metals and inflammation as toxic substances are released].

My long term nasal drip stopped immediately after two weeks of my three week total body detox protocol. It was not my goal with the detox to eliminate this drip. I just wasn't feeling good, and decided to give it a try.
My drip elimination was just a by product of the detox and a pleasant suprise! I have been drip free for two years, and no seasonal allergies!
I did the "detox box" type of complete body detox. It is cheap too! This was very easy to do as it is described in detail in the little box that comes with a CD, and cards that you leave around the house for the various protocols. God for my lyme brain! for novice detoxers. It tells you how to prepare to do it, and what ingredients to buy at the health food store, with the possible benefits. It is designed by the Dr at Canyon Ranch, Dr. Mark Hyman.
It is basic...and having the protocol written so easy, it is much better than trying to glean all the detox info from lymenet posts and designing your own.
I did this before my lyme diagnosis...it helped many things. I am doing it again now, and adding metal detox supplements, as I am removing amalgams preparing for the bionic 880 treatment in Germany.
I'm sure the allergie -immune test and treatment will help also... but if you have never done a complete body detox. I highly recommend starting there just to have a clean slate...to start from with additinal testing and treatments for fine tuning.

Are you able to do the exercise/yoga part of Dr Hyman's detox and do you follow the heat [saunas etc] advice too, or just the specific diet ans supplements for gut repair?

Radha, you can try taking Stahist every day and see if that will work for you. I know that if I take it for more than 4-5 days in a row, it starts to lose its effectiveness. If it did the same thing with you, you could just switch antihistamines for a week or so and then switch back to Stahist.
BTW, I got a script for Atrovent nasal spray yesterday for my vasomotor rhinitis. The early results are promising. I have only used it twice (last night and this morning), but my nose has stopped dripping. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it will work for the long term.

I'm getting ready to do the Allergie-Immun Gigi mentioned above because I know my continual drip is allergy related.
Meanwhile, I've been using a nasal irrigator every morning. It feels awesome when done to have that junk in the back of my throat gone. I add tea tree oil, grapefruit seed extract to the baking soda and salt.
On mornings I forget, I have that thick junk in my throat. Sometimes it makes me sick to my stomach as it slowly drips down. The irrigator is one of my priceless tools I have. The only place I've seen them is online.
It is not available in the USA. Go to the website, send them the sample and pay for the test and they will send you the test results. If you decide to do the treatment, follow same procedure.
Use the Google translator. A number of people from this board are already doing it. Most have found that they have wheat and gluten allergies, as well as other dysregulations. Allergies to heavy metals is also common, which means their body is unable to release/detox them. It is very worthwhile if you want to get well and stay well to look into this. Have them send you their Study of results for some 200 people.
