I haven't slept more than two hours a night since starting the doxy. I'm getting worse. I take cymbalta for pain. Anyone have experience with Lunesta and these two meds.

I tried Lunesta with my xanax. Lunesta for me at least was the same thing as taking a piece of candy. It is very hard to treat the insomnia that comes with LD, but some people do seem to come up with cocktails that work for them.

I have tried a bunch of combos and some work for a while and then they don't work anymore. I took Melatonin with xanax and it actually worked for a few weeks. Also, Rozerem acts very much like melatonin. I think Lunesta is one of the more unlikely to work on Lyme insomnia.

Hopefully you will get some more replies.

The only thing that has worked for me through all of this is Ativan. It's a benzo and I hate being on it, but sleep is important.

Severe neurological problems. Probably sick for years. Became chronically sick in Aug 2007. Undiagnosed for another 15 months. Started treatment for lyme and bart Sept. 2008. Improving, but very slowly.

After trying all the sleep aids and Xyrem, my daughter has been taking 2mg Klopopin, 3mg Lunesta, 5 mg Melatonin and keeps chewable melatonin by her bed if she wakes up during the night and needs more. That has been the best combo so far, and trust me we have tried everything!

I tried Lunesta while I was on Doxy. It worked ok for a few nights, but seemed to become increasingly ineffective. Ambien was useless. The only thing that worked was Tylenol PM, of all things. But perhaps that may have just been a coincidence. I also dragged myself out to take a short walk every day (10 minutes); not sure if that's an option for you.

I'm not on doxy now, but I use this "Tranquil Sleep" (Stress Relax brand) formula when needed. It has melatonin, 5-HTP, and Suntheanine L-Theanine.

Insomnia is miserable, I really feel for you. Hope it improves soon.

I was very surprised to accidentally discover that taking 500 mg of GABA at dinner helped me a bunch with sleep the following night. And it produced "normal" sleep, not the non-stop dream or complete no-dream nights I've experienced with other meds. I've read that small, oral doses of GABA like this don't have any effect, but they sure do on me.

most new sleep meds sonata lunesta, ambien cause extreme lyme nitemares .
stay with the benzodiazepams.
i take clonazepam only one that works 8 hours
i take 3 mg at nite.
can also be used for panic attacks during day.
xanax and others only work 4 hours.
most of the new sleep meds are promoted because they are not generic and make lots of money on them
all benzo's are generic and cost very little.
most sleeping pills this year will not be covered by most insurance companies, don't know why.
taken of part d medicare have to pay full price.
still can get 120 at walmart for 26.00

i take 10 mg of ambien.

otherwise no sleep at all...just catnaps and pure exhaustion.

i'd like to go off it but haven't found anything else that works. lunesta gave me horrible nightmares.

with ambien i just pass out, can't remember anything but, hey, at least i can rest.

I agree on the Ativan. My experience was the same. However I also will note the short half-life of 4 hours. That makes it difficult. Something that works for 8 hours would be preferable, but Ativan is a solid option for the severe insomnia Lyme commonly causes.

I take Somni...it's a natural supplement from Sanesco for sleep that I also take with other neuroporcessor supplements that are prescribed after a saliva test from Sanesco specifically for my neuro processor balancing. I highly recommend anyone who can find a LLMD who knows about the Sanesco test and products to try them.

They take a few weeks to kick in...and work for my daughter as well and other lymies who are on them too! The sleep is either great, or better...but still not totally perfect. I still have lyme!

Do a search of sleep issues.... a while back I posted a whole slew of natural remedies for sleeping disorders...

Stuff like... take a warm bath a few hrs before sleep, darkened room, cooler room, fan or white noise machine, no food or caffeine hrs before sleep, no tv in bedroom, no tv hr before sleep, if awake get up and read a book for 1 hr then go back to sleep, go to bed same time every night and wake up same time every day including weekends, eat a banana 1 hr before bed (magnesium can help sleep)..etc, etc...
