Hi all,
I am on Doxy and Bisaxin and was told, no dairy with the meds - but I can eat dairy at other times through the day. I make sure it is about two hours or more away from taking abx although not much! But, is it the dairy orr calcium??? If calcium, that is another issues all together.
Thanks! Rich

No metals within a couple hours of doxy...that means no calcium or mag supplements , antacids like bicarb, or pepto bismol (bismuth). Probably would include any metal like iron also.
Metal seems to interfere with the tetracycline family.

....everything I've read says avoid supplements containing metal and antacids containing metal including baking soda....food probably doesn't contain as much.

Some metals interfere with tetracycline absorption, calcium, magnesium and iron are included I think. If the doxy does not upset your stomach, I would suggest it on an empty stomach, at least 1 hr away from meals or any vitamin supplements.

Hi, yes I try to not take any supplements with Doxy or Biaxin. I guess Doxy is the bigger issue. How abotu Flagyl? My doctor said to take with a meal and no dairy, that was it! I thought it may be the calcium issue so I am careful with calcium anytime near taking Doxy, including veggies. But it is hard because calcium and other such nutrients are in a lot of food. I did try Doxy early on on an empty stomach and I got terribly nauteous for abotu an hour but I did not throw up, so maybe I'll try it again since my body has probably adjusted somewhat. Can I do the Doxy and Biaxin together on an empty stomach? I take my morning dose with breakfast so maybe I could wait an hour till I get to work to take the first does but I would hate to get sick! I'll try this on Saturday. Thanks.
Websites say can be taken with food but no dairy.

oddly....I can take doxy on an empty stomach but not biaxin...we are all different in our response to irritants, you have to tailor it to yourself...
