I have been having a very persistant, obnoxious taste in my mouth lately.

The best way to describe it would be sort of sour and sort of bitter....just strong, and persistant. It seems like it is probably from some sort of medication or supplement I'm on.

I don't get used to it...it's like it keeps getting dumped into my mouth through my saliva or something....very odd.

I'm on some new things. Biaxin isn't one of them. I took some expired Zithromax for about a week (shame on me, i know....) and am just now finishing that up. Could that cause it? It has never caused a bad mouth taste for me in the past though.

Some of the other newer things I'm on are Low Dose Naltrexone, new probiotics, a new oils supplement (omega 3's and 6's from plant oils), a liver supplement that contains artichoke and sarsaparilla, and Olive Leaf Extract.

Also am new-"er" to Bactrim....I have been on an increased dose for about a week.

Has anyone had a bad taste in their mouth from any of the above?

This isn't just that the supplement/drug itself tastes bad, this is constant, throughout the day, as I emphasized before.

I was on Lunesta for years and have been off it for about a month, but am now focusing on detoxing my body.....could it be that my body is detoxing it? (lunesta has been known to give ppl horrible tastes in their mouth)

Thanks for any insights!

Okay, I just did some reading about the "Lunesta taste," and it sounds very similar to what I'm experiencing. What I'm experiencing is so intense it's borderline scary. It's an intense, bitter taste.

And here is the weird part: I am currently, as part of my "detox" effort, taking a homeopathic supplement called Mundipur, that is called a "Neuro detoxer."

Do you guys think it could be detoxing years of Lunesta from me, so now I'm literally "tasting" the drug???? I took it for years and never experienced the horrible taste some people describe with it.....my doctors would always ask me, doesn't the taste of Lunesta bother you? And I'd say, no.

Could it be that this is coming out now? hmmmmmm. If it is, that would be weird.

Okay...I found this quote on a site talking about the infamous "Lunesta taste" that happens to many from taking Lunesta. I don't think this person makes perfect sense, but I get the "gist" of it...

"The bad taste in your mouth is the result of your a breakdown product of eZopiclone (Lunesta) produced in the liver and released through the saliva. It tastes nasty but it's harmless."

The thing is, I have been trying to detox my liver lately with that liver supplement....the one I mentioned that is artichoke and sarsaparilla. I am in shock right now if this could be what this is. It is disgusting to think I'm actually tasting a substance being detoxed out of my liver.

Could this be true?

When I read the descriptions of the Lunesta taste, it very much sounds like this taste I'm exeperiencing. I hate to be-labor the point, but it is intense....it is interfering with eating and even sleeping or focusing on other things for me. It is that bitter.

As I said, I took Lunesta for at least 2 solid years, if not 3, every night, but I have been off it about 3 weeks. Never experienced the taste until now. I am taking lots of detox supplements now, including liver detox and homeopathy.

Understandably, I am a little freaked out by this. The taste has slowly been creeping up on me these past few days (maybe for about 4-5 days off and on), but today it has finally become unbearable. And I mean UNBEARABLE.

About 40% of people who take Lunesta report a bitter taste. For some, it makes them discontinue the drug.

This is just TOO weird you guys......if this is the cause of the taste, I'm just in shock this chemical or whatever has been hanging out in my liver. UGH.

Okay, I'm going to try to get some sleep. I'll be back tomorrow to update on if the taste is better or worse.

In the mean time, if anyone knows of other things that could be producing this taste, please share.

Thank you.

Just want to apologize for the large number of posts....it is really early in the morning here, and the taste is so bad that it's like a horrible hallucination, but it's REAL!

Oh my gosh....this is terrible and scary! I hope I can sleep. I hope this goes away.

But I just wanted to apologize for the large number of posts. Thank you for understanding.

Well when I first started taking minocycline, it shifted my sleep schedule so that I would wake up around 7 AM and get tired around 10 PM. It was very sudden and bizarre.

My psychiatrist and I attributed it to the minocycline working as an anti-inflammatory in the brain, and resetting my sleep-wake cycle.

When I then added other antibiotics, I think they must have contributed to the inflammation, because now I'm still on minocycline but no longer enjoying those benefits.

But, at that point, I decided to stop taking the Lunesta. It was kind of a now or never moment.....and now I think with the kill-offs, I'm more tired anyways. So I'm not taking anything for sleep currently, though I probably should be.

But, I'm taking tons of detox stuff, so part of me is thinking the Lunesta is getting detoxified from my liver? I don't know if that is just a crazy idea or what.

If anyone could taste what I tasted, they would be frantically searching for what was causing it, because it was/is so bizarre and strong and continuous.

So we'll see. I actually just got up an hour or so ago. It is still there, but minor. It didn't get bad yesterday until after I took my supplements, so I'll come back later and update.

I know my husband had the worst taste in his mouth from lunesta.

He didn't notice it after taking lunesta for a while.

He stopped taking it about 10 days ago.

I'll ask him if he is still getting the nasty taste.

He isn't detoxing though.

He is a-wall with his Lyme treatment. [shake]

Hugs,

Geneal
