Topic: When to switch from Bicillin to IV abx?

A little history: I was on oral abx for six months, with very little improvement. My LLMD then put me on Bicillin injections. I am also on Flagyl (for cysts) and Levaquin (for bart). (Plus anti-yeast, various supps, etc.) I'm definitely feeling worse since starting Bicillin, but I don't know if it's "herxing" or not, or if the Bicillin is really helping. I was wondering what the experience of others has been. How long should I keep trying the IM injections? Is there a generally agreed upon point at which one moves on to IV abx? Thanks, all. I'm just trying to get a handle on what my future might hold. -AnnaL

Anna, I have the same question! I eagerly await replies. I've been on Bicillin 5 months. Was 3xwk, now 4xwk. I get a lot of herxing from it, but I am torn between thinking I really need IV Rocephin to deal w/neuro Lyme and fearing possible complications. -Sharon

I did bicillian 1 shot a week for 16 weeks and saw no improvement. My new LLMD said that 1 shot is like water-- will not do much. I got a PICC line monday-- and can not report on that. But the bicillian shots for me were very painful -------------------- Positive 10 bands WB IGG & IGM + Babesia + Bartonolla and NOW RMSF 3/5/09 all at Quest And still positive ELISA and WB two years after IV treatment http://www.lymefriends.org/profile/blake

I'm currently on 3 shots of 1.2 MU per week. The shots are painful, but not overly so for me. Luckily, I have a high pain tolerance and previous experience with multiple piercings and tattoos. My main concern is that, well, I think it's what all of us are thinking--I want my life back! I want my brain back! It's so difficult to figure out how aggressive to be (and when), in balance of risks and benefits.

After 5 months of bicillin my llmd suggested IV Rocephin. Not sure how long though. I've only improved 10-15% in the past 8 months. I'm excited to try it. I'll do anything to get my brain back.
