Everyone,

Can a Flagyl herx be strong? I swear since taking Flagyl I have had some really bad days, balance issues, nausea more often, pain in the arm goes through the roof, more pain in my feet, etc. It is like my symptoms are on steroids at times, if you know what I mean.

Yes, yes and yes.

I remember the headache that made me want to cut my head off.

I switched to real flagyl (not generic) and that helped.

Backed off when I needed to.

I still take one 750mg flagyl ER one day a week.

Still get headaches too.

Hugs,

Geneal

If you werent on a "cyst buster" b4...when you start it finally, there will probqbly be lots of cystic form bacteria.

So the herx will be strong at first.

Definitely makes sense.

I never took flagyl. Doc put me on Plaquenil. Maybe flagyl is much stronger than plaquenil on cysts?

I didnt get that strong herx when I started plaquenil.

Basically been a steady, strong herx for the first 2 years. Fading a little now after 3 years and initiating IV's.

Found IV's caused an extra herx....but was more fatigue-like. Allowed me better sleep. I actually LIKED it.

Could finally sleep w/o nearly so much Valium.

M first pulse of flagyl caused such a strong herx that my LLMD took me off treatment for a week.

Also, some of the symptoms you describe may be side effects of Flagyl itself. I get spacey, have slight balance issues and nausea when I'm on flagyl and it goes away when I get off.

I wound up on a 7 day course of flagyl for a vaginal infection. While on it I felt like I was going to die! i almost took myself to the eR

I had horrible gastro problems, pain, exhaustion, motor tics, nausea. I stopped after 5 days.

I was taking Nutramedix enula at the same time. Only afterward did I wonder if the small amounts of alchol in the drops were making my symptoms worse

I just got off Flagyl. I feel like it did me a lot of good. But it is really hard to get up to the dose your doc wants. You need to increase then decrease as needed for a while.

Everytime the doc increased it was the same - needed to go up and down until the full dose. Except for the last increase - that one was the easiest.

I had been on for 6 months before it stopped doing good. I must have had tons of cysts as that had never been addressed with me.

I felt all kinds of crazy things while on Flagyl - muscle twitching, pains in my chest and yes a lot of nausea and bad taste in my mouth.

I am now going to start Malarone for my babesia. The doctor told me to just do what I did with the Flagyl and work my way up.

I think we are all always afraid with a new drug. But hopeful too...

My husband pulsed flagyl IV for a few weeks once a week. His main herx was that he felt extremely down and depressed the following day.
