I was wondering if anyone knew if having Lyme could cause a person to have a positive rheumatoid factor.

I have had a VERY high RF since being DX'd with lyme... I think it is common.

i have been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis for approximately 10 years. it has been sky high and finally after doing iv abx it came down to a 40 in the past 6 mos. i believe i have lyme's and not RA. continue to have your rheumatoid factor checked as you do your abx.

Yes, mine is high as well. I was still in the 'trying to find a diagnosis" mode and it was one of the tests the Rheumotologist ran.

At the time, he said that my RA Factor test was very high but he didn't feel I had RA so he felt it was a false positive.

Since my lyme and co diagnosis, I have found many others that have said that was one of the tests that had come out positive for them along their search.

Rhem. Arthritis is not a bacteria nor a virus. It is just the name of a disorder wherein the immune system attacks the body.

Lyme is one known cause of RA. Fix the lyme and the RA will go away.

However, RA should not be treated lightly at all. It is sooooooooooooo damaging.

I have lyme, babesia, mycoplasmas and Cpn, all of which are aggravating my immune system causing RA.
We keep it well controlled while battling the bugs.

I work with a rheumatologist who is ILADS LLMD and absolutely believes ongoing infection is causing RA. Not a runaway immune system.

Take it serious. Joint damage can occur.

Inflammation is behind your high RA factor.

Eat an anti-inflammatory diet. Take anti-inflammatory supplements. Exercize. Do all this along with treatments for lyme.

Study up on ways to eliminate inflammation in your body. Lifestyle changes.
