Hey,

My doc recently gave me some new ideas about these probiotics...

Has anyone taken them and if so, did it help?

Thanks

My son has taken Culturelle. I think it's a good probiotic. It was recommended to him by his GI doctor about 10 years ago. We use a different type of probiotic now.

Culturelle is a good product but it only contains
lactobacillus. It doesn't contain any strains of bifidobacterium, which are important for those on ABX.

Florastor is saccharomyces boullardi, which is very important for anyone on heavy duty long term ABX.

Below: are some of the many strains you should look for in a good well- balanced probiotic formula. The types that require refrigeration I have always been told are the best.

Just google any product and you will find tons of sites and can shop and compare prices. Many places offer free shipping too.

Bifidobacterium breve ss.
breve
Bifidobacterium infantis ss.
infantis
Bifidobacterium longum
Enterococcus faecalis TH10
Enterococcus faecium
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Lactobacillus bulgaricus
Lactobacillus casei ss. casei
Lactobacillus fermentum
Lactobacillus helveticus ss.
jagurti
Lactobacillus plantarum
Streptcoccus thermophilus

AZURE WISH & abxnomore....

Thanks for your replies....

I think I will stick with the Culturelle and Florastor...

Also I will pick up something that contains Bifidobacterium in it... I'll look around.

I was just curious if anyone has taken them and how it made them feel.

It mainly should help your GI tract and help prevent your getting c.diff. but will provide other benefits, too. Everyone should be taking a probiotic, even if they are not on ABX, we just need tons more.

Here is an article that explains
what beneficial flora do:

If you are looking for something that goes well with florastor try Jarrow Esp probiotics. Its one of the few that actually has the number of bugs its claims and doesn't have any that its not suppose to.

Its one of the few that passed the rigid testing by Bastyr University along with florastor

Thanks for the replies..

I have searched and searched all the above...

I'm trying to get the most (cpu) per capsule

along with a high quantity of capsules for a

reasonable price.... also trying to find the

most strains at the same time without going

bankrupt!

The search continues!!!

It's cheaper to by it in powder form instead of capsules. New Chapter is a good product and this one required refrigeration. I would not take it with juice...sugar is a no, no. You can put it in plain quality organic yogurt or mix it in water.

http://beyondprobiotics.net/ncallflora.htm

You might search for a better price else where but this is a good product with a broad range of flora. And between the other two products you have you, you should be fine. Often you can ask your local health food store to order products for you, as well.
