My mom called me a couple of days ago to inform me that Lyme disease was on the front page of my hometown newspaper.

The newspaper I worked as a business manager, and close partner with the publisher.

There are two women chronicled in this article, and all of their struggles through Lyme.

When my mom called she was crying, along with her coworkers. She said she never realized what I was dealing with, having this disease.

I plan to call the publisher and relay to him the struggle I have had with the disease, having to have open heart surgery umong other things.

He is a good family friend, and it would be nice if I could contribute to another article! [bow]

It's good to hear from you. I'm glad it opened your mom's eyes.

Please post the link to the paper, or the name of the newspaper. I'd love to read it.

Hi,
This is great to hear. I'm hoping more papers will write articles. Esp. after "Under our skin," hits theatres. Glad your mom and her co-workers read it and are supportive that is so important!

Take Care,
Ann

Our local paper came to our house to discuss Lyme and how it has effected my family.

It will be coming up in next Sundays paper...

My wife originally called to ask them if they would run an ad for our support group.

They were very intersted in the disease, so we figured whats better than having a newspaper put all the info out there?

After all, every paper in every town should write something about this disease...

I agree, every paper in every town SHOULD write something about this disease,

especially those places where ticks are a major problem as they are in my county.

I know I have hesitiated to approach our local paper because although I have had some rough times the past year, I don't feel as though I'm a major sufferer as some on here are.

Hi guys

I havel looked and looked for the link to it and can't find it.

The website is statesville.com and it was on the front page of last Sunday's newspaper-March 15th.

The two women in the article said they were cured by Dr. J.

I am going to call the publisher tomorrow-thank god he is a great friend-and try to maybe get him to do another story, and to tell him the hell his little girl has been through.

My mom was a manager at this newspaper for 15 years and that was my first job, where I was business manager, so maybe I have some pull

Thank god I left on good terms!

I will keep you guys posted.

hi roy,

i did one 5 yrs. ago coming up aug. 04; took 3-4 months to get this done. this turned me down; they turned another woman down; together we were able to make a point and they did 2 separate articles on us, and the the next weekend, lyme support group had a table at local FARMER'S MARKET where we each told our story using their microphone system.

even 1 texan called my house during the time i was home; he was really glad i'd done it and especially on this statement i made which paper published:

"You look perfectly healthy...not sick" said one of my family members. Oh what they don''t know and can NOT feel of the pain and fatigue inside me! If I were in a wheelchair, used crutches, a walker, or a cane...I would have a visible disability.

"It's all in her head". Only those of you going through this know how much pain and anger you've caused us with your thoughtless comment on our "invisible" illnesses!

We don't want sympathy; we only want your support, compassion, and someone to talk to when our "flare-ups" are bad. I have been blessed with my supporter, husband, and close friends.

fyi, newspaper here would NOT let me read her final story before printing! all mistakes i brought to her attention thru the FEEDBACK COMMENTS to the link of our story. so be prepared! you don't know until it's in your lap as you read! [Smile] xox

Its a very good article:

http://www2.statesville.com/content/2009/mar/15/lyme-disease-often-misunderstood/lifestyles/

I saw it syndicated to other North Carolina papers I think.

What a great story!!

You are right... all we want is support and for the medical field to take this disease serious!

If I was hobbling around with crutches or a cane, like you had mentioned, people would feel bad.

You know what though.... I Look Good! Boy am I sick of hearing that. I've only been hearing it for 2 years.

Wouldn't even want to know what its like to hear it for 10,15,20,30 years! I'd go crazy!!

Well thanks for your story and advice!

Thanks for the article. It's scary to think that these two had knee pain which was overlooked. Many don't even get such obvious symptoms.

Yes, please keep us posted. Any postive article about this disease and what it does would be great.

Being you worked there and left on good terms hopefully they will listen to you!

Thank you for posting the link. What an excellent article. It portrays the disease in everyday words.
