I have had hair loss on and off through various treatments and in time.

Not like this though. I wash my hair and or brush it and large amounts are falling out?

Whats up
I have not added or changed anything major.

Been ON IV abx for 3 months now. Have not changed what I have been doing?

What causes hair Loss like that? Maybe some hings will point me to why this is happening to me.

It has been only in the last week to two.

Like I said. Its not just some hair.. its Clumps and gobs.. and so much that.. .. I know something has to be going on...

I would say thyroid or antibiotics.

That's my guess.

My 14 year old daughter is doing that too. I am

getting her thyroid checked. She is on low dose

Doxy. So I am assuming it is cell loss causing it.

She leaves me a wad in the shower each time.

Oh> Guess what.. I was not able to get my thyroid meds this month due to some
paperwork mistakes..

I was off them for this whole month.

Would that be the reason?

oppss I guess something has changed. I knew you would help me figure it out..

: )

That must be it

You may also want to get your mineral base tested. They affect everything in the body.

Take care.

I have been having a lot of hair loss since having lyme and asked my Dr. for his advice--he said to start taking B-50 (it contains niacin) and within 3 to 4 weeks it was not falling out as it had been. It really worked for me.

I share this for others who are experiencing hair loss with lyme disease. After you have ruled out it not being from thyroid or abx then I would talk to your Dr. and see if you can take it.

It really worked for me! [Smile]

I'm sorry but I am no longer accepting any private messages due to my own battle with lyme.

Hi Spring...

I have had hairloss my entire time of being sick. When I first started out I would have wads of hair in my brush, the shower, and when I would brush my hair out....piles of it on the floor...talk about depressing. Anyways its gotten better as time has gone on. But it looks like you found the culprit..your thyroid meds [Smile]

Thanks for the advice.
I have always had hair loss but this is like Such large amounts .. I have never had it this way.

Even before Thyroid Meds.

So I am not sure it is the Thyroid meds. I dont know for sure. I will have to wait and see when I get back on them to see.

I also barely notice any benefits to my thyroid medications....

Who knows...

I have noticed more than normal amounts in my hair brush lately. The weird part is that I seem to be getting better.

I did a search and found one of the reasons could be low levels of zinc and b-6.

We should also keep in mind that some of these treatments can be akin to chemo and are toxins to kill the infections. Try not to brush/comb your hair too much especially when wet. Hope it stops for you.

I just remembered and double checked this. Hair loss is on the symptom list for parasites. I should have known. What a nasty disease this is,

Patchy hair loss is one of the symptoms of bartonella. Also the loss of eye lashes. (I can't imagine losing my eyelashes) [Eek!]

SS, I don't know if Bart is a contributing factor, I guess you'll have to see how it is after getting back on the thyroid meds.

Keep us posted, I'm curious to know if the thyroid meds resolve this problem for you.

I also have had the hair loss issue for a long time. It improves when all the other symptoms improve and worsens when they do as well. It began when I was in childhood. I noticed it but I couldn't convince anyone else that it was happening. I would show my parents my brush and they would just say that it must be from not cleaning my brush for a long time. When I tried to explain that I'd just cleaned it two days ago they looked at me like I was crazy and they ignored me from that point on.

Hi All. I am back on my Thyroid med for only a week so far. Hair is till coming out in Clumps. I mean ALOT..

I have had hair loss on and off during different treatments but not like this.
I asked Doc about it today. He thinks it is the thyroid med issue. But we will see.

It also could be the build up of all the IV abx I have been taking that is affecting me differently than anything prior. Like Gael says it can be like chemo..

I hate taking a bath now.. When i wash my hair I end up with handfuls of hair and hair in my water. But I have to bath because of my port. I just make sure to do it very last now.. I used to like to do it first.. Big deal on that one....

But >>> I am sure it will take a few weeks to see if it changes....

I have one of those hair catchers in my tub drain thank goodness. But.. ughh I cleaned out my drain under it.. Oh My goodness.. I almost got sick to my stomach.. So much hair pulled out..of there too.. And I have shoulder length hair.. I can not believe how much is coming out..

Whats odd for me is it started so abruptly at this level. I always had some.. Just not near this much.. I always had too clean off the hair strainer every day .. and now I have to clean it out and off a few times so that the tub will actually drain.!! Like 20 times as my usual amount or more..even. Its nuts... and I try to be more gentle.. More comes when I end up combing .. Got WiDE tooth comb now.. My bathroom has hair all over the sink and floor....

So.. Whats alarming is the amounts...for me....

We will see though.. Ok got carried away there.. its just weird........

I told my mother I have having chemo sympathy. She is losing her hair now and it is nearly all gone....

Hey > it could be it?
She said my sister is having it happen too?

Never know.

So sorry to hear of your hair loss. This is a major issue for me as well. It has been going on for many many years.

I don't lose clumps but there is so much that i do have clean my drain after every shower and the hair I lose over just 1-2 days covers my bathroom floor.

SO depressing. I used to have thick luxurious hair..now it is thin and mousy.

I've been tested for thyroid over and over and over for many years. They always say I am normal. Has anyone been able to get on thyroid meds with normal bloodwork? I hear the blood tests are not that accurate.

I really want to try the thyroid meds to see if the hair loss will stop.

Let us know what happens Springshowers. I feel for ya and hope it gets better!

Just an update.

I had restarted my thyroid meds and saw improvement after 2 weeks. But then ended up in the hospital for a week. I did not have my thyroid meds. I am on .o50 of Synthroid is all.

I was amazed how fast the hair loss started up again. Upon arriving home I got back up on my meds again and it has been two weeks again.

Now the hair loss is way back down. So.. This tell me for sure it is a thyroid issue. I had not had this issue when i started this med over 2 years ago?

So thats odd.. ? I guess It has progressed and I am going to ask for some more testing. I do not feel worse or better on the medication though which is odd too..

I promised to update and maybe this will help others narrow down the hair loss and what might help is the thyroid meds..

Blessings

Thanks for the update.

I've always wondered if Armour or something would boost my hair back up.

Does your hair begin to regrow? thicken? or just stop falling out?

Well.. My hair is quite thick to start with. So.. when it falls out there is A LOT coming out.

And when it I am treating the thyroid.... it just goes back to normal..... thickness as far as I can tell..

Hard to tell in my case but I assume it will not "boost" your growth.

Hard to tell since over time we may not notice fully how bad it has gotten and when it starts going back to normal it will feel like it is growing again moreso??

I would have your doctor maybe testing your thyroid if you have not been tested before. Ask about it and see what they say. Or you can go to an Endo doctor and they will to a full exam and testing in a very precise way..

I am shocked at how much this is connected for me to the thyroid med and I did not have hair falling out prior to taking the medication in this huge way.. I really can not figure it out but I am going to ask my doctor if my thyroid condition can be worsening while on treatment and maybe we should retest it??
