Hi Dr ??, I am in desperate need of some advice. I returned from a long stint backpacking around South east asia back in May 2006. In the april whilst in Cambodia
I fell very ill with recurrent fevers and sinus and throat infections. I rode it out and returned home the following month and felt fine.
I got checked by my GP who ran tests including Toxoplasmosis and found nothing. Over the summer I never felt right and had a very low immune system with recurrent infections as well as joint pains, lymph node swelling in various areas at random and many other things.
In Sept 06 I started getting floaters in my left eye. I was admitted to the hospital for testing as I was found to have Pan-Uveitis in my left eye.
2 months later I get results back that I was positive for both Borrellia (reactive)and Bartonella henns and quint very high IGG.
I was diagnosed with lyme disease and given 200 mg of doxy for 2 weeks and sent on my way. This led to a massive increase in symptoms classic of a jerx herxhiemer reaction and I have been fighting it ever since.
I have been on multiple regimines of abx with varied put clear successes. Quinalone antibiotics worked miracles for me and literally got my out of being bedridden ( I am 29 years old and physically very fit and healthy otherwise).
My eye symptoms have for the most part gotten better and flares are less severe, I have a clear MRI and both neuro and CNS inflammatory issues My opthamologist used topical steroids to try control the inflammation earlier on but this only resulted in a cateract forming.
I have since gotten confirmation of the lyme, Bartonella diagnosis from 2 other doctors, one in the UK and one in NY USA who specialise in TBI's.
I recently had a second opinion from an OPthamologist in Shanghai China and was as follows:
lots of pigments and cells,anterior periphery mild snowbank change, retina still detected
,no edema,exudates or vascular change on the retina or optic nerve, no macular edema or retinal detachment noted.
My right eye was found to have a small tear and it was repaired without incident.
My Opthamologist here in Dublin seems quite happy to allow the inflammation continue at this level despite the fact I am disabled by it and cannot function properly.
I still have many other systemic symptoms of lyme which continue to improve with treatment but the eye issue is preventing me having any decent quality of life.
Do you think there are other treatment options for me? The sheer amount of debris in the vitrious and terrible light sensitivity makes normal functioning impossible.
Do you think a vitrious biopsy would be an option? I am desperate and willing to fly anywhere to get this resolved.
Yours sincerely
Neil

Happy to evaluate you here at MERSI if you wish, and then opine on what more might be appropriate for your care, including surgery and medication (www.mersi.us).
The possibilities, in my opinion, based upon your description, are legion, including ongoing active infection (from sequestered microbes not killed by prior therapy; ongoing infection from an as yet undiagnosed microbe co-infecting you during the trek;
and autoimmune disease triggered by damage caused by the initial infection). Vitreous biopsy can be extremely helpful IF the material is analyzed by those who truly understand what to look for and how to do it;
the proceedure itself is not the tricky part; planning for and doing the analyses is.
Sincerely Yours,
I have withdrawn his name

Sorry its so long, thought you might find it interesting that although he does not mention lyme specifically he does acknowledge persist microbial infection being the possible source.
I may go and see him to treat uveitis as a seperate entity.
Does anyone know of anyone who has gotten a vitrious biopsy done?
Thanks
Neil
