Just curious if anyone is on this protocol? I thought it was pretty commonly used. My children's LLMD, Dr. J, just put one of my 4 year old boys on it.
Now when we asked hubby's LLMD to try it since he is no longer tolerating Levaquin, she said that they (rifampin and biaxin) should not be taken together.
I was telling my Mom about this and she looked in the Lyme Disease Solution book by Singleton and it said that Rifampin actually works best with Biaxin!!
Just curious if anyone else has heard they should not be taken together. Seems to me hubby's LLMD is wrong on this one.
Instead she put him on Bactrim and Rifampin. I guess that's OK, b/c we are most concerned about bart at the moment, but I am not sure that this protocol goes after lyme as well. I thought Bactrim was mostly for bart.

I have read on here that many have taken the two together. However my LLMD wouldn't do it, said they interact.

Many LLMD's use them together.
At one time I had a link to a drug interaction site that said Biaxn could potentially cause the Rifampin to build up in the body in some people.
I took Biaxin and Rifampin together and I became very very ill and had to go off due to elevated Liver Enzymes. Until then I'd never had sore Lymph nodes, either.
So I think there is a potential interaction issue - although it's not listed in all drug interaction literature or sites - I checked many and only found it in this one place. I sure wish I still had that link (sorry)
