When I first started popping Rifampins it turned my urine a brilliant orange/red color. Now after a about 3 weeks the color is (almost) back to normal.
I read all about the first part when researching the drug before taking it. However, I didn't hear about the 2nd. Has anyone else had the colorization dissipate over time like this?

I just started Rifampin last week.
Yes, I noticed the brilliant orange color, but it only seems to hang around for a few hours after I take it.
I thought the discoloration would be all the time, if there's supposed to be an even level of medicine in your system.
I haven't noticed any other lessening of discoloration yet, so I don't know if it's anything to worry about.

Chron,
Usually it is recommended that Rifampin be taken about 1 hour before a meal on an empty stomach.
If not, it could lessen its effectiveness. I did notice that when I ate to close to the dose taken, my urine was not as bright as usual.
This may or may not be your situation.
Also you may want to read the data and/or check with your doctor regarding what other meds to avoid. Certain meds should not be taken while on Rifampin.
In addition, my LLMD always took a blood sample to check liver levels every month while on Rifampin, as it collects in the liver. She did monitor carefully.
