I am closely watching one of my 5 year old boys who recently stopped taking Mepron and artemisinin after 2 negative babs tests over the past 4 months. He had tested positive for it last summer (8 months ago).
Dr. J wanted to take him off these meds since it appears most of his babs symtoms have gone. I am very hopeful his babs is gone but am a little concerned since he still has had night sweats almost every night.
He has been off the babs meds for 2 weeks now and is only on rifampin and azithromycin for bart and lyme. Yesterday he said he had a headache and today I have noticed that he seems more tired than he has been. He even said he was tired a couple of times. It was very subtle, as he still ran around at the park. It just seemed that he wasn't quite as energetic.
He also rested on the couch a couple of times during the day, and he hasn't done this in a long time.
I hate to say it, but my hunch is that the babs is coming back. I recall that coinfection symptoms can come back pretty fast.
He had treated the babs for 8 months. That seems like quite a long time.
I'd love to hear what your experiences were with coming off meds a bit too early...

I treated for a year and when I stopped Mepron and Biaxin it came back. Now I'm on Mepron and zith plus high dose of artemisinin, pulsing it all.a
I've been on this new combo for two months now and my LLMD told me Friday he feels that Babs is my major issue. I agree with him.

tickbattler, I would call Dr. J. and let him know about your son's symptoms.
From my experience, Babesiosis can be hard to eradicate sometimes. His symptoms sound like Babesiosis symptoms. He may need further treatment.
I hope he feels better soon.
