The last few days smells have really been bothering me. I took my Rife machine out of the plastic bag that it came in and the smell of the wood just about floored me.

I also boutht a Sauder Curio type thing to display and have easy access to all of my supplement and pill bottles and the smell of this thing is torturing me too.

Opening the fridge door sends me reeling. I am also itching in my arm pits, nose and eyes.

No meds for several days.

What do we do for these things besides allow in fresh air? I have my Rife amchine sitting outside to air it out.

Is this a detox thing? If so, how to remedy?

Thank you,
Feelfit

If you got a rife that was stained with wood stain - SEND IT BACK ! Tell them to send one without the stain on it, and one that has not been stored next to others with stain.

AND - is it all solid wood with NO plywood and NO pressed wood product?

Wood stain will interfere with your healing - and it can take a year or more to go away. Sometimes, longer.

Mine was not stained at all.

-

Did you just purchase that Sauder Curio cabinet? If so, that could have been the trigger. Unfortunately, though, this may take a while to subside.

I think it is absolutely necessary to return the Sauder Curio cabinet, too. I had a very nice file cabinet from them years ago and did all I could to air it out. Finally, 5 years later, it still smelled and I just gave it away.

I did ozone on it, aired it out on my deck forever, used baking soda, etc. NOTHING worked.

If you feel ill around it, sorry to say, it needs to get out of your house immediately. This is a huge stress on your liver.

You might find the closest "natural furniture" - "naked furniture" - "unfinished furniture" store nearest to you. They have some very nice things.

It is best to buy solid wood - no particle board or plywood at all. The woods used in unfinished furniture are pretty good and it's not all that expensive, either. There are some on-line places - just be certain that no composite woods are used at all.

Now, as to what to do. Yes, this is a liver thing but also a brain thing. Your brain cells are overloaded (in a neuro-excitatory state) from toxins because your liver is overloaded.

MAGNESIUM and FISH OIL will help lower that NMDA hyper-neuro-excitability.

BETA CAROTENE will help your liver get the porphyrin load down. Eating frequency and including long-acting complex carbs and lots of colors in your veggies is good. Avoiding beef and going more toward fish and tofu will help.

Most likely, your liver's detox pathway is stressed for the classification of drugs / foods/ environmental chemicals in the Cytochrome P-450 pathway.

Once "sensitized" it can take a very long time to get back to normal. Some find the Rx, Neurontin, can help resent the brain's part in sensitivity. that drug does not go through the liver so much but is metabolized mostly by the kidneys. (It does not work for everyone, though. IMO, magnesium is much safer and works better for my brain.)

Avoidance of irritants is the number one thing right now. Believe me, it is of upmost importance to get all the chemicals and scents out of your home, your car, your life. The sooner you can get relief, the sooner this has a chance to resolve. Otherwise, it can go on for years.

I sound militant in my approach but I cannot stress strongly enough the importance of strict adherence to a very clean environment. In addition to getting all the scented and chemical products out of your home, try to get out all the vinyl, too.

Go for cotton, hemp, polyester or nylon shower curtains, etc. Those that are not coated with teflon. Avoid new furniture as that is coated with teflon and flame retardants, etc. Avoid new carpet and flooring, too.

Steve,

Smelling smoke (or any smells) in their absence can be a mild kind of seizure. (Magnesium and fish oil can help that but it also can be from liver stress).

Be sure, though, that you don't have any clothing or other items that have EVER been exposed to smoke of any kind. It is nearly impossible to get rid of. You might actually have some things around that have been exposed so it might be worth another look.

If you live in an apt., you could be smelling smoke from another apt or a deck.

---

Leather is treated with some very strong chemicals and dyes and will hold that for years.

As for a breeze, it can bring pollen, etc. Sadly, my windows open to the exhaust fans from 11 other apartments and I get all their crappy scents from the shower and from those who have washer /dryers, too.

If the breeze coming your way involved the pollutants from others' apts or houses, try to anticipate their actions and close windows before that gets to you.

You can also search here for safe products for personal/ home use. I recently looked this up for sunscreens, and it's a good time of the year to read this. It applies to everyone but, especially, to those with MCS.

GoodGuide Sunscreen SPF 15 And Above Ratings

It's important to pick sun care products that will protect you from the sun, and the health risks of sunscreen are generally still lower than sitting out and broiling yourself a nice shade of cadmium red.

In the United States, the active ingredient in most sunscreens is oxybenzone, a moderately effective sun blocker but one that reacts with sunlight to form possibly allergenic and carcinogenic chemicals.

Oxybenzone is a popular ingredient because it rubs in well, but for safety, we recommend sunscreens with either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide as the active ingredient.

Some companies use a nano-particle sized version of titanium dioxide or zinc oxide (often referred to on labels as micronized titanium dioxide or micronized zinc oxide), which absorbs better and won't make you look ghostly.

But nano-scale ingredients are also small enough to be an inhalation risk in powder or spray-on sun care products, and titanium dioxide is known to be carcinogenic if inhaled.

Sunscreens also commonly contain immune system toxicants DMDM hydantoin (a form of formaldehyde used as a preservative) and triethanolamine (a common pH adjuster), as well as neurotoxins like aluminum starch octenylsuccinate (a heavy metal used as a thickener).

Chemical blends of ingredients added to sun care products to make it smell good and labeled ``fragrance'' on the ingredient list are often strong allergy concerns and frequently conceal the presence of toxic phthalates.

Anti-bacterial chemical and immune system toxicant triclosan also finds its way into sunscreen--and if your sunscreen washes off at the beach or the river, the triclosan will find its way out into the environment, where it's hazardous to marine life and could lead to the rise of drug-resistant bacteria.

You can use GoodGuide to find sun care products without many (or any) of those chemicals by checking ingredient lists or looking for sunscreens with high health and environment ratings. You can also check for products that have not been tested on animals.

Wow thanks Kebler.

My RIFE machine is a DT, same as yours. No finish on it....I can just smell the wood to a huge degree.

The Sauder thing is pressed wood, I'm sure....I smell that too to a HUGE degree. The radishes in my fridge smell like carrion to me.

I wear not sents, my clothing is all cotton, down to the undies.

Like Roy, it seems that my nose is out of whack.

Am doing Milk thistle, NAC, ALA. Juicing 4 carrots, celery, ginger, kale, apple, beet, and garlic daily. Along with some green powder added.

I will read up on MCS. Want to nip this in the bud. It happened once before when I was on high dose IV Rocephin, I stunk and could smell the lower level of my home while upstairs in bed!!!

Crazy! Itching is liver overload too?

Itching can be liver overload. Often if the liver is overwhelmed, the skin takes over the detox and rashes will often appear - or itching.

While NAC is a super thing, it can be too strong for some people. You might need to cut back a bit - just for a few days - and see if that helps. Be sure your green powder is not in excess.

I did not see that you are taking magnesium or fish oil. Those are the top two helpers for the brain's over activity from the senses.

you can read more here about processes of "liver" and "skin":

http://oneearthherbs.squarespace.com/

=============

Have you been exposed to lawn or garden chemicals from neighbors, perhaps? Stuck behind any vehicles and their diesel exhaust?

==========

Okay, then, the Rife should be fine. The wood itself does have an aroma but if unfinished that should not be toxic. I notice mine, too, but it does not make me sick as does furniture with chemical stains, etc. Even natural linseed oil really get me.

-

As for the radishes, if old, toss 'em . . . if fresh, they may be calling to you in some way. I say eat them. Strong smells - like from fresh foods - may just be strong but are not likely to pose damage.

Aside from lavender. That usually really clobbers most MCS patients. Lemon is good, though. It will soften the radishes.

You might also put just one drop of essential lemon oil on a tissue and place near the RIFE, careful to avoid the bulb, of course.

I did the detoxigenomic liver test through Genova Diagnostic labs that showed which Phase I and Phase II liver enzyme pathways are working or not working genetically. It helped my doctor figure out how to start detoxing me.
