Do herxes always go about four weeks part? I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything. I think I herx every fourteen days. Could that be? or am I experiencing the waxing and waning effects of LD.

Since starting abx in Jan. I have three really bad days every two weeks. Like clockwork. Can you herx more often than monthly as stated in Dr. Bs guidelines?

I have figured out that I have a Lyme flare-up every 4 weeks -- for about 4 - 10 days. The rest of the time I can be herxing from the treatment.

For example, I added Samento and started increased symptoms even though it is past my flare-up time -- the herx is more just fatigue, sweats and fever and the flare-up of the Lyme also has swollen feet, ankles, sick feeling.

My understanding is that a herx reaction is from treatment -- either antibiotics or other things, even massage can trigger a herx and it is what happens when the immune system is fighting the inflammation.

Good luck

I have no herx pattern, which makes me always question my Lyme Dx. I herx every 4-5 days usually. I can't seem to make it 3-4 days on any protocol now w/o a major flare-up. They are getting WORSE with prolonged Tx, not less. [Frown]

Lyme has a 4 week cycle. My lyme doc told me that babesiosis has a 1-week cycle and a 2-week cycle.

When we started treating babs, I experienced the 1-week cycle and then the 2-week cycle. It was definitely like clockwork. To the hour every week the sickness started and ended at the same time.

So, it sounds to me like this could be the babesiosis cycle you are experiencing. Are you treating babs right now? Were you diagnosed with babs?

When asking medical questions, you may want to consider adding a signature line that tells us your diagnosis, the date you were diagnosed, meds you are currently taking & how long, and previous meds & how long for each. For example:

__________________________________________
Lyme, babs, & bart diagnosed 6/08
doxy 300 mg/day (6 mo)
mepron & zith currently (as of Jan. 2009)
__________________________________________

That info helps us in giving you our best answer to what is or may be going on with you.

I leave my treatment off because I've put it here before and people tell me its inadequate. There is one LLD in Utah and I'm seeing her. She says she has all but two of her patients in remission so I trust her.

I was diagnosed with Lyme in Jan. 09, I had the entire Igenex panel for Lyme and all co.'s I was Igenex pos but CDC neg (of course) I had <1:20 titer for babesia duncani IgG but a 1:80 IgM for babs. My LLD prescribed 400mg doxy/day, 2000mg amox/day and 500mg zith/day along with an anitviral acyclovir for a latent CMV infection.

She said this would cover the different forms of the Bb and get the co.s as well. The first three months were one continuos herx, but now I have three bad days every 14. My next appt is May 19. I just wonder if this pattern means I need something different or if what I'm doing is killing the germs

Thanks for your in put

Well, based on what I know, the only thing you are taking that hits babs is zith. Zith alone will not eradicate babs from what I read in Burrascano.

Maybe when you report the new 2-week cycle your doc will add mepron to the mix to really go after babs. At some point you need to add artimesinin to the mepron.

Have you read what Burrascano says about treating babesiosis? It is just 2 pages. Starts on p. 22:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

I believe the zith could be causing the 2-weeks babs cycle to become apparent. Good for you. This is important information to give your doc at next appt.

Very interesting about Babs being a 4-6 day cycle and TF your comment on herxes lasting 48 hrs. Sounds familiar!! It takes 48 hrs to get through hell for me. I was on death's door Tues morning. Stopped meds and now 48 hrs I feel like I am here again. How very strange.

If my treatment depends on adding mepron then I'm doomed. I can't afford it and my insurance won't pay for it. If nothing else will eradicate babs, I have little hope of improvement.

I've heard that people do get better just by addressing the lyme and helping the body's immune system hold the rest in check.

Hopefully my doctor will have some ideas.

Bwillis: Malarone is often prescribed in lieu of Mepron, and is actually a combo of atovaquone (which is essentionally Mepron) and another drug.

I THINK I've heard that Malarone is cheaper than Mepron...anyone know???

bwillis, I got rid of babs with Bactrim DS (double strength). It is not expensive at all. But, it takes about twice as long to do the job compared to mepron and zith. So says my lyme doc. (I can't take zith, so I was never given the mepron/zith combo.)

So, you are not doomed!

I took it two times per day for about 11 months.

Take the artimesinin on the 3 days that you herx, and continue taking it that way (pulsing it) whether you still herx on those days or not. Based on what my doc had me do, I would say to take it EVERY week on those 3 days.

Take it on an empty stomach--that's how I was told to do it. I took it twice per day.

Let us know how you do.
