For anyone who has had the typical bartonella rash- like red streaks:

How long does the rash last once it appears?

Can it only last several hours then fade?

Thanks for any input.

Mine showed up the first year in treatment with doxy. It stayed for 2 years (and more showed up) until the bart was treated.

My understanding is that the streaks stay until bart is treated. I was treated for well over a year before mine faded.

That said, I've heard others say that theirs come and go.

Mine first appeared after I started Bactrim. Mine did come and go, fading within hours and reappearing.

I took a pic of it and showed it to my LLMD and explained how it came and went, he was still pretty sure it was a Bart rash.

Hi Kitty,

I am wondering if your Barts rash appeared after you started abx or if it was present before.

I don't have the streaks, but have other skin issues that have been diagnosed as Bartonella and am wondering if I might develop streaks as well.

I do know that there are many kinds of Bart rashes....

For instance on my legs I get the streaks that look like stretch marks but red.

On my inner biceps I get round circular bumps......

Leelee, not everyone will develop the streaks, so you may not.

I have other skin problems associated with bart, and have never develped the streaks.

One daughter had the streaks and it took several years after starting tx for her's to fade. She has light scaring now from it that seems to be fading (she has been in tx for over 5 years).

Thank you, njlymemom.

Since starting abx I have noticed what might be streaks at the top of my stomach. But they are very, very faint so I am not sure. Yesterday I added Zithromax so maybe that will make them more apparent.

I did notice, though, that a few hours after I took my first Zithromax table that I developed a rash on my left shoulder and five hard, large nodules on the same shoulder near the rash.

I am really curious to see what happens with streaking for me.

Leelee-

In December I started on Mino. In February I started with this "acne" like rash over my chest, shoulders, back and face.

Doc thought it was due to Bartonella coming up after treating the Lyme a bit.

I thought it strange that a drug used for acne- mino- was not helping clear this.

I started Biaxin nearly 6 weeks ago. The acne stuff seemed to calm down a little, now it is back in full force. They are dry, hard, red bumps. Some are bigger than the others.

About the streak:

It may not have been anything. I noticed a red streak identical to the Bart pics I have seen online. It was near my belly button and about 1 1/2 inches long. It faded away after several hours.

Unless I see more streaks like that, I will disregard it. It did just appear, though. I was just sitting around yeaterday feeling tired and I noticed it as I went to shower. It was not near a seam or clothing fold that I could tell.

Who knows, right? Just like so many things with this disease complex.

Hi kitty,

Thank you for explaining the sequence of events for me.

The "acne-like" rash on my chest, shoulders, back and arms sounds very similar to yours. I occasionally get it on my face too. I have never been able to get a dermatologist to successfully treat it. Now I know that is because they never knew what it was. My LLMD took one look and said "that's Bartonella".

It flared up somewhat after starting Dynacin, calmed down and then the new rash and bumps came up when I started Zithromax.

LLMD said all of the acne looking stuff will eventually clear up so I was ecstatic! [Cool]

I hope your streak is gone for good as we don't need one more thing to think about. Please keep us posted.

I had marks that look like scratches.. thin thin red lines.. some by my stomach and some by my arm.. u can hardly really even see them but u can feel them...

I dismissed them at first as i must have just scratched myself but they started to appear in other places so I knew it was bart.. They have been coming and going throughout treatment and my dr says this is a herx and indicates treatment is working

I also thought maybe they can flare as a herx.

Wouldn't we be a sight if we all got together! [Eek!]
