This drug scares me more than anything. I have read nothing but horror stories about it from stomach troubles to depressing thoughts and horrendous herxes.
I plan to start VERY slowly, like 1/4 teaspoon for a few days and then ramp up a little at a time.
Has anyone actually taken Mepron and done okay with it?
I have to be able to take care of my kids so hopefully this will work okay.
Any advice?

I LOVED MEPRON!!!!! It was my best, favorite drug! I took 2 tsp twice daily and started out on that dose. Every 24 days herxed like crazy and that was bad, but made steady progress.
Took it for a total of 14 months.

sixgoofy - just curious from your post...did your herxing correspond to the babesia life cycle? If not, do you know what it is?
I have not been able to see any real cycles with my husband or children.

Tickbattler, I honestly do not know, but that pattern continued for two years and even when I returned from Germany and was told the Lyme was no longer active. A couple months after returning from Germany the cycle stopped and I no longer flared.

I took Mepron (one teaspoon twice daily)--with Zith every other day--for about 225 days before I stopped having night sweats.
I definitely noticed less brain fog, more ability to think about things, more mental stamina, and more good days, overall.
This was after treating Babesia for many months with other remedies.
My LLMD, even after all the Cryptolepsis and Arteminisin I'd taken, had me ramp up on the Byron White herbal A-Bab formula and stabilize on it before I started Mepron/Zith so that I wouldn't get the sometimes severe psychiatric problems from Mepron. He told me that he'd had more than one patient sent to the psych ward due to Mepron herxes. UGH!
Mepron/Zith did NOT fix needing to nap every day, fatigue, short-term memory problems or tinnitus.
I didn't have noticeable "flare" cycles with or without it.
Hope this helps!
Best,

I did not have any problems with Mepron.
Everyone seems to respond a little differently to each medicine. That's why you work individually with your doctor to come up with a plan of care that works best for you.
Good luck Hope you have a good response with your new combo.

I took mepron and zith for 6+ months. It was a little hard to tolerate at first but it helped me a great deal. Didn't get rid of babesia though so we are on to malarone now.

It is a great drug, and helped alot, even though I became morbidly lethargic and did get depressed while taking it!
My doctor says that only a minority of patients have the depressive side-effects. Hopefully that will not happen to you, but you can always reduce dosage and try to work through it if it does.
