I was happy to see the post on Vitamin D helping to reduce your chances of getting cancer by as much as 60%.

My question is what is the proper amount of Vitamin D supplements we should take and can you hurt your body by taking too much?

Are somes types of Vitamin D supps better than others? i/e pill type vs. oral drops etc ??? And, does it matter if you take Vitamin D with Calcium?

Thanks,

My daughter got up to 6,000IU daily. After a while, we think her liver just backed up. Her face broke out very badly. We tried everything. So, we stopped the D, drank a lot of detox tea and fruit enzymes, and her face cleared up within a month.

She just had a toxic overload from everything. She is back on D but only doing 1000IU daily.

Just get your bloodtested every once in a while to see if your levels are going up.

My daughter herxed with her first 400IU, so ramp up slowly.

Make sure it's D3.

Hey Kelmo, good to see you on here.

Dr F told me to work up to 10,000IU and didn't mention anything about toxic backup from D. Did he specifically say too much D can be responsible for a toxic backup/detrimental to liver?

I have breakout on my face as well but it's been there since before I started supplementing with D.

I think the latest I read about D was that it is now recommended that everyone supplement with 2000 IU per day.

That means those of us with chronic illness should be doing more.

Course this depends on the source.

I know a "mainstream" doc has my mom taking 10,000IU daily; she has an "autoimmune" illness.

Can you take too much Vitamin D?

Yes.

While most of us are deficient, some can have too much. Testing a couple different levels of D to see where your levels are is a good idea. Then you know how best to proceed with supplements - or not.

Also, if you are NOT on doxycycline, 20 minutes of daylight on your skin and into your bare eyes is a tremendous help in many regards. (Those on doxy must avoid sun exposure, though).

I took 50,000 IU's 2x a week because my D was low at 19. It then skyrocketed to 129. Apparently this is too high. Docs had me back off and it shot back down to around 24.

I now take about 10,000 IU's a week. I haven't had it checked lately though. Last time it was around 30.

Not my LLMD, but an endocrinologist suggested to me that it should be around 75.

Thanks everyone,

I believe my level was at 29 the last time I had it checked.

My Rhuemy told me to just take a daily supplement.

He does not know I have Lyme yet.

Are there any particular brands you recommend?

Thanks for your reply's!

You can take too much. I was low. Started 5000 IU a day and went off the high end of the range. Had to reduce. It all depends, but it is best to check both D,25 and D1,25. If the D1,25 is higher than the D,25, then it may not be ideal to take more D as I understand.
