For several months the center of my tongue has felt as if it's burnt, then the tip got sore. Just today the soreness has spread a bit.
What is weird is it started (the burnt feeling) when I actually did burn it.
My tongue looks real healthy. My LLMD said it could be neuropathy. Leave it to me to get neuropathy on my tongue. I don't think it is though, because toothpaste can hurt the area that is sore sometimes.
Any ideas and any suggestions on what to do for it?

I've had a sore [sometimes 'burnt' feeling as you describe] tongue on and off throughout my [long] illness, but especially bad whilst I still had amalgams.
The expert I saw prior to amalgam removal told me my amalgams were also rusting, which was making mercury sensitivity and the local symptoms worse.
If it gets really intense and continuous, you could ask a mercury-free dentist to check the amagams.

Burning tongue can be a symptom of Lyme. I suffered from it for years before my diagnosis and treatment.
Almost immediately after starting abx my tongue felt better. It only occasionally bothers me now.
If you go to www.canlyme.org you will see "burning tongue" listed as a symptom of Lyme.

I can also go there. It can also be an indication of vitamin B deficiency.
That's another thread to explore and chew on.
I have had it since all of my amalghams were removed in 91. I was not dx with chronic Lyme of many years standing until 99.

Thanks for all the replies. Once again, it is good to know that I am not alone.
At my last gyn visit I told her that before I knew I had Lyme I just thought I was weird with all the stuff I got. (Some nurse asked me what I was exposed to. I wish I could tell her now that I know.)
Anyway, so I got another diagnosis when at that gyn appt. and thought here I am with Lyme, but I am still being weird.
Then I read here that others have vulvodynia. She did say it could've been fall out from Lyme and she wanted me to find out if other Lymies had it.

Great link that you posted above ( http://www.atlantadentist.com/sore_tongue.html ). That would have help years ago when I posed this to my doctor and he just kept saying he didn't know. Even my dentist didn't know, although she suggested I see an oral surgeon but, due to severe sound sensitivity and seizures, I just could not go anywhere but her quieter office.

I had a burning mouth for four straight years - and also with various shapes of aphthous ulcers. One naturopathic gyn. thought I had "burning mouth" that can come with menopause.

Check to see if any meds cause "dry mouth" as this can be part of the problem.
Toothpastes can also be part of the cause.
First, it it important to stop any commercial toothpaste that has sodium lauryl sulfate or other harsh chemicals. Biotene toothpaste helped a little bit. They make an overnight rinse but it has petroleum product in in (prop.glycol) so I avoided that.
Then I switched to just baking soda, letting it melt on my brush first so it will not scratch teeth. That continues to be my friend.

I had tried everything for the burning mouth. Nothing worked except allicin or andrographis. Andrographis was the most effective and, within one week, the ulcers and burning were gone. Amazing.
And it has lasted, although I do take andrographis continually, when I go off it for a week or so, my mouth remains good.
Below is a link to the brand I used. Start slow and it's best to read all about it in Buhner's book as he has a whole chapter. Singleton mentions it in his book.
Even at 3 a day, my mouth got better. Although very bitter, I let one roll around in my mouth for a while before swallowing. In Europe, there is an andrographis gel for dental problems but I cannot locate that here.
Links to books, videos about Bio-Indentical hormone choices. If from low hormones, after tests and under the direction of a doctor, Just a little of the bio-identical cream can help calm gyn burning.

My ND recommended this for the tender, burning gyn. tissue and it helps, temporarily. Andrographis did not help at all in this dept. This gel is very cooling soothing (but, in my case, the bio-identical cream works longer):

Lots of great info here.
My burning tongue started immediately upon taking antibiotics.
It seems to be related to yeast and actually is a good warning sign for me that candida is getting out of control.
Burning in the 'female area' is another symptom I have related to candida. It can be especially escalated when on birth control too because it changes our hormone levels.

The burning on my tongue started when I added a third oral abx. My tongue burned for a week or two and I didn't see anything wrong. The 3rd week I developed thrush. I guess it was the yeast after all. Dr. H. said to go off all abx. until the yeast was under control.
I did nystatin oral washes and well as the pill form.
This also causes vaginal yeast infections as well.
This just happened recently. The first time in the 5 years I have been treating.

Chewing DGL will also help. For me, I also needed the andrographis but DGL was a intermediate soother to the fire.

Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice, also known as de-glycyrrhizinated licorice, or commonly referred to by the acronym DGL, is typically used as an herbal supplement in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is made from licorice from which the glycyrrhizin has been removed.
The usual dosage is 760 mg, chewed, 20 minutes before a meal. Studies of DGL in humans and animals against placebos showed that DGL significantly reduced the size of gastric ulcers and hastened healing, with 44% of the subjects obtaining complete healing, as opposed to 6% of the control group.
DGL has also been found to be an effective treatment for duodenal ulcers. I see some of you have mentioned "burning". My tongue is not burning, it feels burnt.
Gemofnj, thanks for the reply, but my vulvodynia symptoms do not include burning.
All I could think of causing symptoms there was yeast. So, I treated it 3x's and took diflucan for quite awhile. I take Nystatin regularly.
My gyn was looking for yeast, because I told her that's what I thought it was. So, I was tested a couple of times for yeast and for a rare yeast that my gyn learned about while researching my case.
