Now, other than having her stay away from sugar and carb, anything else I should be doing?
I know what you mean about a battle for sugar. She asks faithfully everyday form daycare like that's the prize she earned from staying in the daycare.
So far I have been able to "fool" her with raisins and fruit but I have this feeling that she is gonna find out soon that these are not really "caddy".

Actually raisins have lots of sugar in them too.
I've bought the mini size candy bars.
Or sugar free gum.
Low carb, no sugar added ice cream works too.
Watch for white on the tongue and yeast "down there".
Even with some sugar, yeast hasn't been a big issue for my children.
Not like it is for me.
Actually, it is Geneal and not General.
Although I've been called General all my life.

Geneal - how could I have missed that one. Sorry about that.
She does seem to have that white tongue and today she seems to be cranky, with a bit of gum pain. So I am letting her rest for a night and hopefully she will be back to herself tomorrow.
I am so torn between giving her a normal child life and dealing with this disease.
Just thought about another question - once she started her abx, can she still be tested for Lyme?

Oh yeah, sorry for a dumb question - regarding watch yeast "down there", can I actually see something or this is something that I need to take her to a doctor?
How do I know if she has yeast infection?

Candida would be systemic. Stomach upset would happen first before any genital signs. The mouth, too, would show signs.
Can you ask your LLMD about your child taking Olive Leaf Extract? When I was on abx, OLE prevented candida totally, a miracle considering my past experiences with that.
Probiotics are required, too, but they (nor a good diet) was enough. OLE was a life saver.

Thank you Geneal and Keebler. I will call today to find out about OLE. Is there a product for children that they can chew down? She hasn't learned to swallow, though I have tried to teach her that with no luck yet.
And Geneal - I will pay attention to the "signs" and will try to get her tested just to calm my own mind. BTW I am not a mom, though I feel like I am a dad and a mom lately.

Hi wtl -
My 3 kids have been in lyme treatment for over a year now. I give them probiotics 2 or 3 times/day. I give the adult Florastor once or twice/day and open the capsules and mix them in with applesauce or yogurt. I also have them eat lots of yogurt even though it is not sugar free. They eat the yobaby brand. It's probably better if you can get her to eat the plain yogurt though!
I also get Yum Yum dophilus at Whole Foods market. They are sugar free chewable tablets. They have 5 strains of probiotics. I make sure to give the probiotics 2 hours away from the meds.
My 2 year old girl just got a yeast infection down there but it is not internal and it was not white. The skin became red and itchy and tender. Normal diaper rash cream did not help.
The ped told me it was yeast and it should go away with topical treatment. It is much better after about 3 days of treatment with OTC Triple Paste AF (antifungal). She is on two antibiotics and this is the first time we have had a yeast issue.
The sugar thing is hard with kids but I do try to limit what I can. I don't let them have juice except for a little watered down OJ in the morning. But I do let them have foods with some sugar in them and even sometimes ice cream or pudding after dinner, which is probably not good.
I do read labels and try to limit what I can. Another thing that I have done is got them eating the Ezekiel sprouted bread from Whole Foods market. It has a low glycemic index and is supposed to be much healthier than other bread.
I have recently started making "lemonade" with stevia and lemon juice and water. They love it and I think it's good for detox!

How in the world can artificial sweeteners contribute to candida. Seems impossible. Do the yeast have a mind of their own and say 'yummy..tastes like sugar'?

Artificial sweeteners are still sweeteners. I got this info from my naturopath.

Interesting Lymetoo - is this proven via medical studies anywhere? Just curious.

Keebler - Her doctor did not call back today so I stopped by the Whole Food and asked the girl about OLE drop. She thought it is more for immune support, instead of yeast related. But I got some anyway and gave my daughter some with the OJ. Without OJ, she hated it but with it she drank without much complaint.
I now also noticed that she had a cyst growing on the inside upper gum where she has been complaining about pain. I think this might be the real thing that she has been complaining, instead of tooth ache that I thought originally. I do have a dentist appointment for her on Monday but in the meantime, anyone has any thoughts on what I should do?
Thank you all.

tickbattler - She loves yogurt, even plain and she does eat them often. I will try the lemonade with stevia and will also try to water down her OJ. Thanks.

Lymetoo - no one in this household uses any artificial sweeteners anyway so I have one less headache to deal with, for now. Or do we consider stevia an artificial sweetener?
