Hi,
Looking for input. My daughter had to stop the Minocycline due to ear issues.

Now we are starting the Biaxin, already on Rifampin.

Anything to be aware of, bad side effects, etc.

Thanks for any info.

My 5 year old twin boys are on that combo. One became a little constipated when we added the biaxin, even though everyone says the opposite is more likely to happen.

Once his body got used to it, we have not had any problems. The taste is pretty bad (my boys are too young to swallow pills).

I think the night sweats with one of my boys has diminished since starting the biaxin only 10 days ago!

Please keep us posted on whether this is a good combo for your daughter. I have heard great things about both of these drugs for lyme and bart.

I stopped Biaxin due to serve insomnia. I ended up not being able to sleep at all. Tried to deal with it with medication and herbs to help with the sleep, but wasn't able to find relief.

Not too suprising with me since I have major sleep issues even without Biaxin.

I am on 1000 mg Biaxin all at once. per day.

I am doing OK on it- some improvements.

Added 300 mg Rifampin, but 5 days in, got a rash.

I had to stop temp. and will be going back to a lower starting dose of 150 mg Rifampin after talking to my doc next week.

I usually have mega trouble with meds, but strangely, these 2 seem ok for the most part.

Tough for kids, I imagine. The Biaxin does taste bad.

Mino was tough for me as well. Never got above 50 mg per day or 100 every other day. Hated it- more dizziness than usual.

Thanks for the replies.

We only started yesterday and she is having a problem swallowing the large tablet.

Will have to call doctor and see what is recommended.

I cut the tablet in 3 pieces with the approval of my doctor.

I do it because I have stomach pain for the full 12 hours the dose lasts if I don't.

My stomach is happier if the pill is already broken up a bit.

The only downside to this is that there are jagged edges that sometimes make it hard to swallow.

Also I had less gut issues on the Extended release version compared to the regular one because it messed with my gut once a day instead of twice. If there are problems with this that is another thing to try.

Thank you for the suggestions.

We had to go to the liquid Biaxin, The Biaxin XL was just too large to swallow.
