I am doing my final research today, but definitely decided this is the only route to take (thanks to all of you!)
I plan on calling tomorrow to make an appointment with a LLMD. So far, I think it will be Dr. C in Springfield, but I am terrified of the normal 6-week waiting period. I have already been infected for nearly 6 weeks now.
I also think Dr. H in Wisconsin would be a great choice, but I live in TN and would definitely have to fly, etc, although it may be worth it if I can get in sooner. I am going to call and talk to them.
I don't know how I can afford this, but how can I afford not to go?? This is the rest of my life we are talking about here. Thanks to everyone for making me realize that.
Thanks, Jen

Jen they are great to put you on cancel list. I got in at least a month sooner. That is a month closer to getting well.

Jen,
I truly understand how frightened you must be having to wait so long for a doctor.
Have you been tested yet? Positive/Negative?
I dont know how you might feel about this, but here is a suggestion. * You have to check with your doctor first.*
Cat's Claw is an herb that is used to treat lyme, instead of abx. Some doctors use strictly herbals instead of real antibiotics for folks that cant take them, or they are just giving their body a rest, or traditional abx doesnt work.
My LLMD will sometimes start patients first with Prima Una de Gato, which is TOA cat's claw, or end their treatment transitioning from abx.
The stuff is REALLY great, I have been using since I have been off abx. (about 6 months)
It would be worth a try to call your doc and ask him what he thought... this would be proactive and perhaps even beneficial.
Its just a thought you may want to consider.

Yes Jen. I agree with Pinelady. Get to one of them as soon as you can. Get a copy of your Igenex test when it comes back, because if you switch doctors to one that's closer to you, you'll need your test info.
Please try to resist taking any self-treatment herbal or other medications (not cat's claw, cat's ear, cat's butt or any thing else) until you see the doctor and get tested...

Best of luck to you jennie46!
Once you make your appointment I have a feeling your mind will rest a little easier. There was something about knowing that help was on the way that made each day bearable for me.

Jen,
Six weeks?
I had to wait six MONTHS to get in to the LLMD here in PA.
That was after 3 months of suffering weird symptoms and being told all that time it was all in my head!
Once you make the appointment, you'll feel better, at least in your mind knowing that you're on the right track.

I waited 22 years and there's nothing wrong with me!
Can you go to a local doc-in-the-box for some early treatment ahead of time?
I'd rather see you treat than wait for a possibility of having a blood test show up something that Dr. C and other LLMD's don't really need to treat since Lyme IS a clinical diagnosis.

Dr. C. is really booking out. I waited almost four months to get in. I would call asap and get put on their cancel list.

I just had an appointment with Dr. C and they are booking 4-5 months out. We drive 11 hours each way. We always make our next appointment when we are there. All 4 of us are sick and December will be the 1st time that we can't have all 4 appointments back to back.

anytime you run into things like that, please notify the person who sent you llmd names so we can update our lists & get out to others who have them. BIG thanks

There are numerous places on the internet where you can buy antibiotics without a prescription. I actually signed for mine from the postlady. It would help keep this crap from reproducing. Doxycycline?

I think its time Dr. C hired help? Patients care is
at stake here. While I know he is overwhelmed and
it is hard to find someone who cares like he did it
is not impossible. He started somewhere. I do hope
he is thinking about it.

I was just letting jennie46 know it takes much longer than 6 weeks to get an appointment. Anyone who wants an appointment should call the doctor's office directly. The availability could change every week.

This is why I was cautious about posting a reply to jennie46. You should contact his office to find out if he is open to your suggestions.

Healing Lyme is a good book by Stephen Buhner. He mentions several herbs that I found helpful. You could start on an herbal protocol while you wait. Or see if a local MD will prescribe you something.

I totally agree with Six. Herbs are great as an alternative.
The longer you wait, the more it reproduces and the harder it is to eradicate.
How do you know how long you have been infected? If you had a bullseye rash that is a GIVEN you HAVE LYME.
Most mainstream docs will prescribe doxy for that immediately.

Get on Dr C's cancellation list. They will likely call you many weeks earlier .. but you'll have to be willing to drop everything and GO.
He's awesome and worth the wait.
I'm like Tincup.. I waited 42 yrs and there's not a thing wrong with me!!!

I really agree with Tincup on this one. Until you can meet with your LLMD, I think it's a very wise idea to go to a local duck (gulp, can't believe I said it without quacking) to get some kind of treatment earlier rather than later. Lyme is not one to wait on IMO.

Sorry Seek I should have said "does care" not did.
I would think it very hard to find someone who is
willing to treat with all the coinfections and
legal issues with the IDSA and what all going on.
I do think he could find a gung-ho, young, save
the world, intern to help. Like I imagine he was. Cute wouldn't hurt
either. Yes I know-I watch House. My niece is a
freshman, majoring in Environmental Science.
Discussing this with her dad he said, "Yea she
wants to save the world, but in reality she will
most likely end up working for some big oil
company." Right now she is in Africa. Saving what
she can. I tried to get her not to go. There are these kids out there.
