Since both Lyme and Lupus have such similar symptoms, I was just wondering how you can tell the difference between seronegative Lyme and seronegative Lupus.
People with Lyme are commonly mis-diagnosed with Lupus, and I'm wondering if the opposite might be true as well.
Could some of the people who have done years of antibiotics with no improvement really have seronegative Lupus, isntead of Lyme?
Should people with a negative western blot/Igenex test be considering Lupus, even if their ANA was normal?

I think that response to treatment could help clarify.
The symptoms are similar, but much of the treatment is divergent.
Lupus flares are treated with steroids, while Lyme worsens with steroids.

The test for Lupus is 95% accurate. If you test negative for it, its very doubtful that you have it.
I also agree that something is causing Lupus. The cause is unknown; but IMO it would have to be a bacterial or viral infection or some other pathogen.
In my opinion autoimmune disorders stim from something. The fact that they say it is of unknown origin, makes one wonder if it could indeed be LD. Then again maybe our bodies really do turn on themselves for no apparent reason. But that just doesn't add up to me.

My doctor phoned to say my test results were negative (don't know anything more specific yet), and I've been having a crisis of "faith".
Hopefully when I see the test it will look more positive than it sounded on the phone!

Lyme and lupus feel very different. Believe me, after 7 years of working on a lyme/babesia cure for myself, and "coming down with" lupus, there is a difference. Blood work clicked positive for lupus when my body changed as well.
And I have no new infection. I honestly believe my body was fighting too hard for too long, and it just got messed up.

I do believe it is totally different while may be caused by some undiscovered pathogen. I was tested for autoimmune antibodies and Lupus, NEG.
