I have been on Biaxin- clarithromycin since March. The pill I was taking was YELLOW. It was a wonder drug for me.

I could be way off base here, but recently I got the script filled at a different pharmacy and though it is Clarithroycin and same dosage/mg it is WHITE.

Here is my question... or should I say statement... it is making me feel like Poo! I have insomnia, and my heart has been racing. This is from someone who has been relatively symptom free for a month now.

Could there be that much difference in the formulations of the two generics to cause this?

The only other thing I added in was a homeopathic "viral combo" drops. Maybe that is kicking my butt instead.

I definitely feel this is medication related vs. a herx or anything like that.

There should not be that much of a difference between the generic and brand name versions. They have to contain the same active ingredient as the brand version but they may have different binders and fillers.

I would stop the viral drops for a couple days and see what happens. You may not be tolerating them well or they may be causing a flare.

If it is not the drops then it may be that you are responding differently to the new version of biaxin. Your body may not be absorbing the tablet well? Or this version might be absorbed better and you are experiencing a stronger herx from it?

Check with your doctor if you don't start feeling better soon.

I agree with Sammy in that I would stop the drops for a while.

As far as the Biaxin, my Dr. insisted I take the brand name, not the generic. There can be a huge difference in compounding between generic and brand, in my experience.

If it were me I would go back to the brand.

The TEVA (manufacturer) generic brand of biaxin (can't remember the color of the pill, sorry) made me have terrible problems, so bad that I've asked my pharmacist to always refill it with non-TEVA pills.

I looked it up some time ago on the Net and did find stuff related to TEVA and clarithromycin.

Since the switch, my issues with clarithro have not been nearly as bad.

I believe that some generic brands are better than others. The standards for generics aren't as good as you would think they should be. They only have to be within a certain percentage of the original.

I have noticed with two generic brands of minocycline that one helped my symptoms, and the other, not so much. Could have been a coincidence, but you never know.

There are people that report problems with certain generics though, like more side effects, etc.

Well,I took the biaxin yesterday but left out the drops and the Nattokinase and I slept like a baby last night and no heart racing. I will add it back in slowly to draw a definite conclusion.
