Some of you know, my wife has been on biaxia for 2 months now. Prior to that, she was on doxy for three months (one month overlapping between the two).
So far, there has not ben any significant improvement we can see. At least nothing to brag about. No significant herx we can speak of, other than a few day knee joint swelling and some bone pain.
Her llmd has just called her and, after the conversation, he asked her to stop biaxin all together for a week. he said he is going to call her again and check in a week. He will then decide what to do. He thinks that's the only way to know if the med works, and what needs to be adjusted.
I have trust in him and have made a commitmemnt to allow him for some time to work his way so I am not too worried.
But I just want to hear from all of you and see if this is something that's not totally out of line.
this is a tough call...i have been on Biaxin for 11 months and never had a huge reaction until i was 2 months in...
but it sounds like he is working with you guys and that is all that matters. The not knwoing and educated guessing is a big part of this game. I would follow DR's order until you find something that your wife reacts to.

Wow, I'm just impressed that your LLMD calls you.
Mine isn't great on having patients call in with questions unless it's an emergency.
But if you trust him, by all means, go with his suggestion and see whaat happens.
Everyone's body, symptoms and situation is different, so sometimes you have to play trial and error to find what works.
Good luck!

Yes, he is very good with the calls. He always returns calls, and often on the same day.
I think what he says is reasonable. The last time I talked with him, he explained the theory to me and I am impressed that he remembers what he told me, and called to follow through with his plan.
Thanks all for your opinions. They mean a lot to me. I feel I am learning more on this board everyday, and yet still very confused just about everything.

wtl, that sounds reasonable. it's def. a marathon. one thing i found most challenging was being able to keep accuate notes of response to meds, etc. due to the really deep encephalopathy.
a week really isn't a long time in the whole picture.
so i would make careful observations to report back to the doc, who needs this input.
