Action Alert #6

from Pat Smith, President, Lyme Disease Association, Inc. (LDA)

In This Issue
Action Needed
Sample Phone Blurb
Thanks To All

MAKE THE LYME PATIENT VOICE HEARD IN DC

In the last call to action, you were asked to contact the US House Appropriations Committee. That campaign was hugely successful and resulted in the committee reporting out Lyme disease language to the full house. (Click here to see LDA press release.)

Now you must do the same for the US Senate. Please call ASAP (July 21st thru July 27th).
*****************************************

The same appropriation language has been submitted to the US Senate Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, & Education (of Senate Appropriations Committee)

* Directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to create a Tick-Borne Diseases Advisory Committee

* Calling upon NIH to convene a scientific workshop to review all scientific perspectives on Lyme disease

* Directing CDC to develop improved and more comprehensive diagnostic tools for Lyme.

ACTION FOR YOU TO TAKE
*********************************

1. Click here to see the list of US Senate members on the Senate Appropriation Committee.

2. If there is NOT a Member of Appropriations Committee from your state, stop here.
You do not need to do anything today, thanks
****************************************************

3. If there is a Member of Appropriations Committee from your state, call him/her.

4. If you cannot call, at least email. Calling is preferred.

5. Ask for support for the language as stated below in the Sample Blurb

SAMPLE BLURB
Senator,

Please support language in the Fiscal 2010 Labor, HHS & Education Subcommittee directing the Secretary of Health to create a Tick-Borne Diseases Advisory Committee, asking for an NIH conference on all perspectives of Lyme, and directing CDC to develop new tests for Lyme. Thank you.

Just sent out my plea to my family members to join the calling campaign. I didn't know what the deadline was last time so my mom missed out on her chance last round.

Thanks for the heads up.

bettyg, I can't figure out how to subscribe to the LDA mailing list. Your links are not copying from your email to here, and I can't find any info on their site about it. Any idea how I can subscribe?

You might want to fix the links in your original post.

Here is the one for checking for your Senators on the Appropropriations Committee:

Also, can you put the deadline dates and what is being asked for in the title, so people know how much time they have to call?

Maybe:

Please call your Appropriations Senators ASAP (July 21st thru July 27th)

I'm not sure if that's the best wording, but I missed out on getting more people involved the last time, because I didn't know what the thread was about until the very last minute when I decided to check it out.

Thanks again, betty, for keeping us notified and involved!
