I am between a rock and a hard place. Apparently abandoned to an extent by my LLMD. Will have to find a new one (again).

I am tired of being flogged by the gatekeeper at the office. The doctor has always been kind. I don't know, but this kind of response, or non-response for that matter is unacceptable to me.

I cannot breathe, my breathing goes out. I put a call in to LLD and received no return call after 2 days. So I faxed a summary. Today I received a call and was reprimanded for sending a fax.

So I am going it alone until I can get in to a new doctor.

Sorry for the vent! But is biaxin and rifampin a valid combo?

there's a conflict between the two, but it's not obvious or well-understood what the significance is.

Check drugs.com interactions checker to see more about that interaction.

My LLMD didn't actually know about it- he suggested that combo when we were just brainstorming- so it may be that he's used that combo and it's not the end of the world.

I think people might do Rifampin with Cipro or Levaquin. But I would check the Interactions Checker MariaA mentioned on that.

I would also maybe check out something like Amoxicillin, since it doesn't seem to interact with much except the tetracycline class.

I think people take Zithromax with Rifampin.

Oh....wait....I think *I* (this shows how bad my memory is) might have taken Minocycline and Rifampin. That was it, I believe. There is a well-known LLMD that is very fond of that combo, and calls it, "excellent." So if I had to pick any, now that I'm thinking about it, I'd put mino with it.

Though the LymeMD that has the blog has hypothesized that mino can send some into an autoimmune state (right? please someone check my facts...ha)....but i think he said that that was only when it was used as a patient's first antibiotic, and it was only an observation of his, not backed up by anything.

Hope I haven't thoroughly confused you. I know of at least one person that swears the mino/rifampin combo brought her to a greater level of health. So worth a shot, perhaps.

Hi feelfit,

Sorry to hear you need to find a new LLMD. I can relate...my hubby is on his 6th, but we are both finally happy! I can't believe you were reprimanded for sending a fax, but I have certainly had my moments with the office staff, especially regarding issues about my children!

My children's LLMD (Dr. J in CT) has put my twin 5 year old boys on this combo after trying other things.

It seems to be working well for one of mine and the other did not respond to the rifampin after 3.5 months, so we stopped it. The biaxin, however, is finally making his night sweats disappear (along with Mepron and artemisinin).

He was on Omnicef and bactrim for 8 months, along with Mepron and art and his babs duncani only seemed to worsen. We are finally turning that around with the substitution of biaxin for the omnicef. He couldn't tolerate zith.

I had asked DR. J about the interaction with the rifampin causing the Merpon to be less effective but he didn't seem to be too concerned. I have also heard a little about the rifampin/biaxin interaction but apparently it does not concern Dr. J. I may be wrong, but I think my Mom read to me out of Singleton's book that he likes to put biaxin with rifampin!

Hope this helps!

I have been on biaxin and rifampin for over a year....not alone just part of the list.

It has helped.
