My boyfriend has been struggling with what we think is chronic Lyme for years now. He's tried various treatments, with some improvement, but it's a daily struggle. Yesterday he emailed me describing one of his attacks, this is what he wrote:

"full on attack - the old style
we went out to dinner and I felt incredibly oddly tired, then woozy
sitting at dinner that thing where it slowly starts and I feel really odd
and then my face goes numb, there is a weird pain in the left side of my head
and it gets weirder and weirder and the last 10 seconds or so - it feels like I am absolutely going to die
I can't understand what is going on at all - life on earth makes no sense
and then it stops and slowly starts again
and all with those deep odd belches"

Usually his attacks are followed by these deep burps or belches... i know it sounds so strange. i wonder if it could be something where his breathing is irregular during these attacks, maybe he swallows air or something??? he doesn't think it has anything to do with air. Anyone experienced similar types of "attacks", with or without the belching?

I am not at all sure about this, but maybe it is a version of "air hunger", a very common symptom of Lyme.

I have had similar attacks, minus the burps. In fact, those kinds of weird attacks are how I started my journey.

I was in church and started feeling woozy like I was going to faint, and my left side was kind of numb and tingly. I also had horrible neck pain.

Till I got out in the lobby I felt like I was walking on rubber legs.

The episode lasted a few hours and then went away, but it kept returning.

I have been treating since March, and I still get episodes, but not nearly as often.

Is he seeing an LLMD? That would be your best bet at this point. Go over to Seeking a Doctor and ask for a doctor in the LA area, then post what you have here. Someone should be able to help you from there.
