Generally multiple drug therapy prevents resistance in bacteria, as well as in babesia's relative malaria.
The macrolide issue was found in an animal study where they looked at resistance to Mepron when used as a single therapy, compared to Mepron plus zith. Biaxin works similarly to Zith though I don't think there's actually a study on it. Some LLMD's think one is better, some think the other is better. Most agree that the animal study is relevant.
