I am on it right now and this my 2nd time
on it. The first time I was on it for
8 months and relapsed. This time I have been
on it for 4-5 months so far. It def. helps
Bart. I take it with Zithro and a lot of
other abx and supplements too.

I did cause a herx for quite a long time but
nothing to terrible.

Hope that helps.
Stacy

Dan67,

I started Rifampin about 3 years ago. I had a terrible reaction but guess it was a herx as my llmd wanted me to stay on it. However, I was also on other medication but that was the only new one. I was on Rifampin for about 10 months. Stopped for a couple and then started back up for another 6 months. (stopped due to new meds that don't mix with rifampin) Second time around I had no bad reactions.

At first threw up much of the first night. Had the runs, was nauseous, sinus problems, pain in joints, really sore throat. Only vomited the first night and then that went away thankfully. Had the runs for about 1 week and that went away too.

If you haven't heard it turns your urine an orange color so don't be too alarmed. At first I thought it was blood or something but llmd had warned me about the coloring.

I definitely do not want to scare you - you have to make your own decision with your llmd. I think it helped me but I am still on a lot of different meds. I am not on rifampin right now but llmd may put me back on later.

Rifampin was pretty easy for me. I started it at 300mg dose for about 2 weeks then went up to a 600mg dose. I took it at night on an empty stomach.

I was really worried about having a huge herx, but in the end it wasn't any worse than other abx I've been on. It was a little different in that I had a sore left hip and lower back and skin sensitivity in those areas, but that lifted after about 1 week.

Other than that I didn't notice much from it after being on it for 6 months or so I stopped recently.

Within 2 weeks I had a whole stack of eye twitching, stinging, blurred vision, sore feet, etc come back. I am sure this was a bart relapse. funny that I didn't think it was doing anything, now I can't live without it. I'm back on the rifampin, but don't think for me its enough to kill off the bart completely.

Its funn

When I first started it, I had a lot of dizziness and nausea, but that went away within a week or two.

Now I really don't have any problems with it.

Like kellyb2411 said, I didn't seem to notice that much of an abrupt difference on just the rifampin (I'm also on Doxy), but slowly some things are getting better.

Been on rifampin for almost 8 months. Started right up at 600mg. It has helped me tremendously.

Been taking 300mg for almost a month and I am still feeling pretty good. Also take cats claw now.

In the begining it increased my headaches, increased agitation, increased brain fog and increases the "heavy head" feeling I had. Also increased neck pain.

Once all that started to slowly fade I tolerated the drug very well.

I used it with Biaxin and it messed up my liver pretty bad.

Make sure you get your liver enzymes checked regularly.

I was only able to be on it for about 5 or 6 weeks but my CD-57 shot up (temporarily) and a symptom or two (that I had for years) completely disappeared! And it's been over six months.

I actually hope to go on this one again.

I've been on it a few months...noticed some worsening of fatigue....otherwise no probs...

It seems to help as well...

It will turn urine and perhaps some other bodily fluids a robust orange as you may have noticed [Smile]

i was on 600 mg rifampin last year for approx. 2 months.

i did not have any adverse affects at all except for orange pee.

i think you are supposed to take on an empty stomach for maximum absorption.

my bart symptoms totally disappeared after rifampin.
