Dear Linky, What does your intuition tell you to do? That never steers me wrong. So far, it sounds encouraging. Your son does appear to be getting better for now. I can understand why you have concerns about taking him to the clinic. Being around more sick people certainly does not help his compromised immune system any.

I would take him in just in case. A early pneumonia can be treated with antibiotics. If they do test, know what they test for. Whether it is a test for reg flu or H1N1, or other.

Hi Jin and Pinelady,
Well, I decided to take him in. They tested for swine flu and strep, both came back negative. Said it was just a stomach virus.
The doc said I did the right thing to bring him in given his immune function being low.
He also said he had seen a lot of swine and that it is very contagious, but the illness itself is not nearly as bad as they make it out to be.
But he still said high risk groups, ie those with immune problems should bee seen.
They even believed me when I said he had lyme and actually asked how long he had had it etc.
I just about fell over!
Take care and God bless.

I was under the impression that the test for swine flu takes weeks to get the result?
Glad he is feeling better.

No, it only takes 30 minutes. They swabbed his nose for the flu, and his throat for the strep.
He did say the test is not 100% accurate, and if his symptoms did not improve in a couple of days to see our pediatrician.
There were several kids in the waiting room coughing up a storm. They were all wearing masks. It was scary.
They said anyone who gets it who is immune-suppressed would be given the Tamiflu. And be put at the head of the list for the vaccination.
No way will we take that vaccination. Our llmd said neither he or his family would be taking it.
He said he does not believe it is safe.
I agree.

Just a FYI,
One of my children tested positive for the flu last Monday.
Both were sick. I got a Rx for Tamiflu for both of them.
They both got well within 72 hours.
If you wait past 48 hours the Tamiflu isn't effective anymore.
There was a Mom at the Pediatrician's office whose child tested negative
Five days earlier, didn't get better and was back.
Tested positive via nose swab the second time.
Tamiflu can also be take to prevent flu.
Hugs,
Geneal

LOMATIUM is an anti-viral herb. You can get some in tincture form in 2 days priority mail from iherb.com. It's one thing i would use for flu prevention and treatment if i were in a contagious environment.
You can read about it on the internet; there are several sites telling its history; i've posted the contents of some of these websites here.
LOMATIUM saved the Washoe Indian tribe from the 1918 flu pandemic. It's in the parsley family and grows in the dry Western plains.
I personally have experience with Lomatium. It cured my herpes simplex lip sores, completely and permanently eradicated the herpes infection that was either latent or active most of my life. That's how i know it really is at least anti-herpetic.

Dear Linky, Thank goodness it appears to be nothing overly threatening so far! Those stomach viruses are what I dread more than anything. It takes me a month or so to get completely over them. My best friend was very ill with the strain of flu that was responsible for the 1918-1919 pandemic earlier this year. Honestly, I believe she had H1N1.
I do not believe the virus is new. It probably just was not noticed until so many people began getting sick. The CDC could not even pin down the source of the food poisoning with the tomatoes and peppers last year. As a result, I became ill and took six weeks to recover. This is why I have little faith in the government helping in such a scenario.
We need to do all we can to help ourselves. I agree that the vaccine is risky. I have to wonder if perhaps the H1N1 is a terrorist device. What better way to disable a country you despise than with a terrifying new illness? Regardless of the origin, I hope you keep us updated on your child if anything new occurs.
Dear Polly, Thank you for the information! I did not know about Lomatium. Nature's pharmacy has much to offer. Native Americans have accumulated so much helpful medical knowledge! One miraculous natural product I adore is Sambucol, which is black elderberry extract. It boosts immunity as much as 300 percent!

Thanks everyone. He is somewhat better, but is now complaining of some shortness of breath. I have had the same symptom myself and am feeling quite achy.
Will be taking him back to the md tomorrow, and probably will see mine also.
Thanks for all the input.
I will check into the Lomatium, sounds interesting.
Take care and God bless you all.
