I have some increased problems with my vagal nerve ever since I began Lyme treatment.
Treating for Bart at the moment and am on Rifampin/Zithromax combo. All is well and I am in my 4th month. Many symptoms gone, HOWEVER, my vagal nerve has become more irritated or inflamed since beginning this drug combo (did have some symptoms before but not this bad).
Whenever I move my head up or down, side to side, swallow, turn torso, or lay on left side, my heart will pause or beat irregularly. It's as though something is pressing up against it. Seems to definitely be the vagal nerve. I also have bradycardia (48-60 range at rest) which I have always had since symptoms of Lyme appeared in 1994.
Anyone have this? More importantly, has anyone HAD this and CURED it? If so, HOW?
Thanks!

I recall recently reading that the herb Pinellia (I think) will calm the vagus nerve and that Ginger will stimulate it.
I'll check my notes and come back but you can search in the meantime. You might try www.itmonline.org
A Google search: Pinellia, vagus - also has some good links
In animal experiments, taste stimulation by pinellia tuber caused suppression of gastric vagus nerve activity, while stimulation with ginger root caused an increase in nerve activity.

Maybe accupuncture might work?

Hmm... so that's what that is? I have the same thing.. off and on. I wonder if it's the vagal nerve that causes me to feel like my hearing blinks off and on in the mornings. It seems to me to be stemming from the right side of my neck for some reason.
My heart beats irregularly when I lay on my left side as well.

This is weird.. I have gotten this since I got a port and assumed it is the port/ even went to get x rays to check positioning. I told them if does feel like a nerve got hit or affected after the port and I have those symptoms you describe.
when i turn a certain way or turn my head i get pain in my chest and a sharp pain down my side and up my neck and then my heart palpatates... and I have to stay in that position for a moment stuck and screaming. Then if i try to resposition myself I seem to be able to move myself out of the stuck feeling and then i am ok until hit happens again.
does that sound like the same?

yeah I have it comes and goes. SOOO many symptoms have gone since treatment but this one is annoying as hell, lingering and scary at times. lying on right side to watch T.V. feels like my heart is going to up and quit, it does all this bizarre stuff on me.
sometimes bending over brings this on too.

Yes I have what you all are describing. And I notice its worse when I look to the left or when I lay on my stomach and try to look up. I feel like I can hear the blood running to my head.
I may not be able to help you much (sorry). I am really just focusing on why certain bugs (especially Bb) seem to have a proclivity for nervous tissue -- with its (possible) entry way into the different body systems starting with the nerves in the neck, which is packed with nerves -- especially cranial nerves.
The initial, common complaints by tens (actually, hundreds) of thousands of Lyme sufferers is neck pain. Left untreated, these bugs seem to dig deeper into nerves, spine and seemingly any other joint in the human body.

I have a hiatal hernia and apparently a chiropractor may really help with the vagal nerve problem. I am going to stop the supplements for a while.
